Champai Soren [1] [2] [3] (born 1 November 1956) is an Indian politician who served as the 7th Chief Minister of Jharkhand from 2 February 2024 to 3 July 2024 after the arrest of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on allegations of money laundering. [4] [5] [6] [7] Earlier and later,he served as cabinet minister under Hemant Soren.
Soren was born in Jilinggora village in Seraikela-Kharsawan district. [8] He is a tribal leader and his father Simal Soren is a farmer. He studied till Grade 10 in a government school before entering politics. [9] He has seven children. [10]
Soren is a seven-time MLA. [8] He was first elected from Seraikella in 1991 and served two-terms in the Bihar Legislative Assembly till 2000. During the separate Jharkhand state movement,he became a member of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Before joining JMM,he served as an independent MLA. [8] Later,he represented Seraikella assembly constituency in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly continuously for four terms from 2000 to 2024. [11]
He served as the Cabinet Minister of Transport,Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Caste &Backward class welfare,Government of Jharkhand in the cabinet of 2nd Hemant Soren ministry from 2019 to 2024. [2] [12] In a sudden turn of events after former Chief Minister Hemant Soren was arrested,he was made the Chief Minister on 2 February 2024. [13] [14]
Soren is also known as the "Jharkhand's Tiger",as he played a crucial role in the fight for the creation of a separate state in the 1990s. [15] [9]
Hemant Soren once again assumed the office of Chief Minister of Jharkhand after his release from prison in June 2024. Champei Soren left Jharkhand Mukti Morcha after being allegedly humiliated by the party leadership and joined Bharatiya Janata Party in 2024. [16]

Shibu Soren is an Indian politician who is currently member of Rajya Sabha representing Jharkhand and the leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. He formerly served as 3rd Chief Minister of Jharkhand,first in 2005 for 10 days,then from 2008 to 2009 and again from 2009 to 2010. He is also the President of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) political party,a constituent of the INDIA Alliance. He was the member of Lok Sabha from Dumka from 1980 to 1984,1989 to 1998 and from 2002 to 2019 and Minister for Coal in the Union Cabinet from 2004 to 2004,2004 to 2005 and from 2006 to 2006,when a Delhi district court found him guilty in the murder of his private secretary Shashi Nath Jha in 1994. He has also been indicted in the past on other criminal charges.

Haji Hussain Ansari was an Indian politician and a leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). He served as Minister of Minority Welfare and Registration Department in the Government of Jharkhand since 28 January 2020. Ansari was the first and only Muslim to become minister in the state of Jharkhand. He was elected to the Jharkhand Assembly on the JMM ticket four times from Madhupur Assembly constituency in 1995,2000,2009 and 2019 respectively. He also acted as the leader of the opposition in 2004.

The 2024 Jharkhand Legislative Assembly election was held in three phases from 13 to 20 November 2024 to elect all 81 members of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. The counting of votes was done on 24 November 2024. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha won 34 seats,securing 23.44% of the popular vote and its alliance,Mahagathbandhan including the Congress,CPI(ML)L and RJD won 56 seats,securing 44.37% of the popular vote. The Bharatiya Janata Party won 21 seats,securing 33.18% of the popular vote and its alliance,NDA won 23 seats,securing 38.14% of the popular vote. The Mahagathbandhan saw a gain of 8.98% in vote share and NDA saw a loss of 4.68% in vote share compared to the previous election.
