Since then he has acted in more than 400 films in Malayalam and other languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, English and Kannada films. After his debut, he appeared in an uncredited role in Kaalachakram (1973). In 1979, while he was practising law in Manjeri he was offered a pivotal role in M. T. Vasudevan Nair's Devalokam. However, this film was never released.

The film was remade in Tamil as Palaivana Rojakkal (1986), and in Hindi as Jai Shiv Shankar, which never released.
Ente Veedu Appuvinteyum is a 2003 Indian Malayalam-language family drama film directed by Sibi Malayil and produced by Prem Prakash. It was the debut movie as scriptwriters of brothers Bobby and Sanjay. The film starred Kalidas Jayaram, Jayaram and Jyothirmayi in lead roles along Kalashala Babu, Nedumudi Venu, Siddique, Salim Kumar, Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Shammi Thilakan, Sanusha and K. P. A. C. Lalitha in supporting roles. It was remade in Tamil as Kannadi Pookal. Kalidas won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for his performance in the film.
Aadyakiranangal is a 1964 Indian Malayalam-language film, directed and produced by P. Bhaskaran. The film stars Sathyan, Madhu, Ambika and K. R. Vijaya, with a musical score by K. Raghavan. The film won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam. It was based on a novel by K. E. Mathai.
Angadi (transl. Market) is a 1980 Indian Malayalam-language action drama film directed by I. V. Sasi, written by T. Damodaran and produced by P. V, Gangadharan under the banner of Grihalakshmi Productions. The film stars Jayan as Babu in the lead role along with Sukumaran, Seema, Jose and Sankaradi, in supporting roles. The film revolves around the rivalry between a laborer, Babu and Beeran, an evil businessman. The music was composed by Shyam, with the cinematography done jointly by Chandramohan and C. E. Babu. Angadi was one of the major successes of the year 1980, running for 125 days in theatres. The film broke the box office record of Jayan's Sarapancharam (1979) and emerged the highest grossing Malayalam film of the year. The film was a milestone in the Malayalam film industry, achieving cult status in Kerala. The film was instrumental in establishing Jayan's macho hero image.

Palaivana Solai ( transl. Oasis) is a 1981 Indian Tamil-language buddy drama film written, directed and photographed by the duo Robert–Rajasekar in their directorial debut. The film stars Chandrasekhar, Janagaraj, Rajeev, Kailash Nath, Thyagu and Suhasini. It revolves around five friends whose lives are transformed by a new girl arriving in their locality.
Drishya (transl. Visual) is a 2014 Indian Kannada-language crime thriller film directed by P. Vasu and produced by E4 Entertainment, starring V. Ravichandran and Navya Nair. It is a remake of the 2013 Malayalam-language film Drishyam, directed by Jeethu Joseph and starring Mohanlal and Meena. The supporting cast feature an ensemble of Achyuth Kumar, Prabhu, Asha Sarath, Swaroopini Narayan, Unnathi and Rohith B. The film's music was composed by Ilaiyaraaja. A sequel Drishya 2 was released in 2021.
