Charaxes marieps, the Marieps emperor, is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae. It is found in South Africa. [3]
The wingspan is 48–60 mm in males and 65–70 mm in females. Has two broods from September to November and March to May. [4]
Larvae feed on Ochna species. [3] [4] The habitat is montane forest.

He was also a dentist. Van Someren moved to Kenya in 1912 and lived in Nairobi. He was in the East Africa and Uganda Natural History Society and became Honorary Secretary. In 1930 he became Curator of the Coryndon Museum. Van Someren named a number of bird and butterfly species.
