Chitshai, also known as Ajit Sai, Ugut Shah, Chit Sain, Chitsai, and Kelemba, was a Meitei ruler who reigned over Manipur from 1748 CE to 1751 CE. He was a son of King Pamheiba (Gharib Niwaz). [1]
According to historical accounts, Chitshai ascended the throne of Manipur in 1748 CE after allegedly assassinating his father and his elder brother on the banks of the Brahmaputra. [2] [3] His reign, lasting until 1751 CE, was marked by internal strife and political turmoil. [4]
Chitshai's rule was soon challenged by his brother, who expelled him in 1751 CE. [4] [5] After being ousted, Chitshai sought support from the British East India Company in Chittagong, but they did not offer assistance. [4]
