Chris Dieker (born July 22, 1987) is an American professional football quarterback for the Shenyang Black Rhinos of the China Arena Football League (CAFL). After playing college football for the Southern Illinois Salukis, he played for the Cleveland Gladiators of the AFL from 2013 to 2016.

Early life

Born in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Charles and Susan Dieker, Chris attended Topeka's Hayden High School. [1]

College career

Dieker continued his football career at Southern Illinois. Dieker was a 4-year starter for the Salukis, going 20-9 during that time. [2] He helped the Salukis to two conference championships, and was the 3rd quarterback in school history to pass the 5,000-yard mark for his career.

Dieker was rated the 30th best quarterback in the 2011 NFL draft by NFLDraftScout.com. [4]

Pittsburgh Steelers

After going undrafted in 2011, Dieker signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on July 27. [5] He was released by the Steelers on August 4, 2011. [6]

Iowa Barnstormers

He played for the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League in 2012.

Cleveland Gladiators

Dieker signed with the Cleveland Gladiators for 2013. Dieker was serving as the backup to starter Brian Zbydniewski, when Zbydniewski went down with injury, Dieker became the starter for the Gladiators. With the team's playoff hopes dwindling, Dieker delivered a big win for the Gladiators, scoring 8 touchdowns in a win over the Pittsburgh Power, helping keep the Gladiators' playoff hopes alive. [7] He became the starting quarterback in 2016 after the departure of Shane Austin. Dieker was injured in the first game of the 2016 season. On June 10, 2016, Dieker was placed on reassignment.

Philadelphia Soul

On June 24, 2016, Dieker was assigned to the Philadelphia Soul.

Beijing Lions

Dieker was selected by the Beijing Lions in the 2016 CAFL Draft and was the backup to Luke Collis during the 2016 season. On November 6, 2016, during the first China Bowl, Dieker played wide receiver due to an injury to James Romain. Dieker caught 9 passes for 107 yards and one touchdown as the Lions beat the Qingdao Clipper by a score of 35–34. He also scored a rushing touchdown during the game. [8]

Shenyang Black Rhinos

Dieker was selected by the Shenyang Black Rhinos with the first overall pick in the 2017 CAFL Draft. [9]

Shane Austin is a former American football quarterback. He played college football at University of Hawaiʻi. Austin went undrafted in the 2012 NFL draft and signed with the Everett Raptors of the Indoor Football League (IFL) after the draft. After starting the Raptors final games of the season, Austin was able to gain the attention of the Pittsburgh Power of the Arena Football League (AFL). Austin was named the starting quarterback for the Power, but a broken hand caused him to miss two months of the season. Austin then was assigned to the Cleveland Gladiators where he was named the backup to Chris Dieker. With Dieker struggling for the Gladiators, Austin was given the opportunity to start and lead the Gladiators to a 14–1 record as a starter and a berth in ArenaBowl XXVII. The China Arena Football League, often abbreviated as the CAFL, was a professional arena football league that played its games in the People's Republic of China. It featured players from the now-defunct Arena Football League (AFL) and other indoor football leagues' rosters while also using players from China or who are of Chinese descent, The six team, eight-on-eight football league consisted of four Chinese players and four "foreign" players on the field at a time. The league began play in the fall of 2016 and held two seasons, one in 2016 and another, heavily abbreviated, schedule in 2019. It was the first professional American football league to play in China. The CAFL was not directly affiliated with the AFL, instead owned by AFL Global, LLC, a company that was created by Martin E. Colin Madison is a former American football offensive lineman. Madison initially played football at Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, IL; following his graduation, he attended Temple University. Madison started a total of twenty-eight games at Temple. He was signed by the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League as an undrafted free agent in 2011.  In 2012, Madison made his AFL debut with the Chicago Rush. He started in a total of seven games that season. In 2013, the Rush made him a primary starter on their offensive line; Madison started in eighteen games that season. In addition to his regular duties as an offensive lineman, Madison scored three touchdowns for the Rush as a tight end. The team folded at the end of the 2013 season; as such, Madison joined the AFL's Pittsburgh Power. Madison started in all of the Power's regular season games; he was named to the All-Arena Second Team. The Power, despite posting a 15-3 record in 2014, folded in November of that year. In light of this, Madison was assigned to the San Jose SaberCats on March 18, 2015. The Shenyang Rhinos were a professional arena football team based in Shenyang, Liaoning participating as members of the China Arena Football League (CAFL). They were originally called the Dalian Dragon Kings and were based in Dalian, China. Their home stadium was the Damai Center. In 2017, the Dragon Kings relocated to become the Shenyang Black Rhinos.
