South Chungcheong Province,also known as Chungnam,is a province of South Korea in the Hoseo region in the southwest of the Korean Peninsula. South Chungcheong borders the provinces of Gyeonggi to the north,North Chungcheong,Sejong Special Self-governing City,and Daejeon Metropolitan City to the east,and North Jeolla to the south.
North Chungcheong Province,also known as Chungbuk,is a province of South Korea. North Chungcheong has a population of 1,578,934 (2014) and has a geographic area of 7,433 km2 (2,870 sq mi) located in the Hoseo region in the south-center of the Korean Peninsula. North Chungcheong borders the provinces of Gyeonggi and Gangwon to the north,North Gyeongsang to the east,North Jeolla to the south and South Chungcheong,Sejong Special Autonomous City and Daejeon Metropolitan City to the west.
Chungcheong was one of the eight provinces of Korea during the Joseon Dynasty. Chungcheong was located in the southwest of Korea. The provincial capital was located at Gongju,which had been the capital of the kingdom of Baekje from 475 to 538. The cities who were on former province will host the 2027 Summer World University Games.
During most of the Joseon dynasty,Korea was divided into eight provinces. The eight provinces' boundaries remained unchanged for about 480 years from 1413 to 1895,and formed a geographic paradigm that is still reflected today in the Korean Peninsula's administrative divisions,dialects,and regional distinctions. The names of all eight provinces are still preserved today,in one form or another. These eight historical provinces form both North and South Korea,and are not to be confused with the provinces that make up South Korea or North Korea.

The writing system of the Korean language is a syllabic alphabet of character parts organized into character blocks representing syllables. The character parts cannot be written from left to right on the computer,as in many Western languages. Every possible syllable in Korean would have to be rendered as syllable blocks by a font,or each character part would have to be encoded separately. Unicode has both options;the character parts ㅎ(h) and ㅏ(a),and the combined syllable 하(ha),are encoded.
The Gyeonggi dialect or Seoul dialect of the Korean language is the prestige dialect of the language and the basis of the standardized form used in South Korea. It is spoken throughout the Korean Peninsula and in the Korean diaspora,but it is mainly concentrated in the Seoul National Capital Area,the most densely populated part of South Korea,which includes the cities of Seoul and Incheon,as well as the whole Gyeonggi Province. It is also spoken in the city of Kaesong in North Korea.

Hoseo is a region coinciding with the former Chungcheong Province in what is now South Korea. Today,the term refers to Daejeon,Sejong City,South Chungcheong and North Chungcheong Provinces. Hoseo people use Chungcheong dialect. The name is often used to refer to people residing in the region. Nowadays Chungcheong is more frequently used instead of Hoseo. The region will host the World University Summer Games in 2027.

The Jeolla dialect of the Korean language,also known as Southwestern Korean,is spoken in the Jeolla (Honam) region of South Korea,including the metropolitan city of Gwangju. This area was known as Jeolla Province during the Joseon era. However,it is believed that the dialect dates to the Baekje kingdom with Chungcheong Dialect. Like the Chungcheong dialect,the Jeolla dialect is considered non-standard. Pansori texts are written in the Jeolla dialect.
National Route 1(Korean: 국도제1호선;RR: Gukdo Je Il Hoseon) is a national highway in South Korea. It connects Mokpo,South Jeolla Province with the city of Paju in Gyeonggi-do. Before the division of the Korean peninsula,the highway ran until Sinuiju,North P'yongan Province,in present-day North Korea.
The Korean alphabet,known as Hangul in South Korea and Chosŏn'gŭl (조선글) in North Korea,is the modern official writing system for the Korean language. The letters for the five basic consonants reflect the shape of the speech organs used to pronounce them,and they are systematically modified to indicate phonetic features;similarly,the vowel letters are systematically modified for related sounds,making Hangul a featural writing system. It has been described as a syllabic alphabet as it combines the features of alphabetic and syllabic writing systems.
Dalgona (달고나) is a Korean candy made with melted sugar and baking soda originating from South Korea. It is a popular street snack from the 1960s,and is still eaten as a retro food. When a pinch of baking soda is mixed into melted sugar,the thermal decomposition of the baking soda releases carbon dioxide,which makes the liquidized sugar puff up and becomes a light and crunchy candy once cooled and hardened. Typically,the creamy beige liquid is poured on a flat surface,pressed flat,and stamped using a cookie cutter giving off the image on the candy such as a star or a heart. Consumers try to trim their way around the outline on the snack without breaking the picture as a challenge. Traditionally,if this trimming is completed without breaking the candy,the consumer receives another free dalgona from the seller.
Hwanghae dialect is a dialect of Korean spoken in North Hwanghae Province,South Hwanghae Province in North Korea,as well as the islands of Baengnyeongdo,Yeonpyeongdo and Daecheongdo in Ongjin County in South Korea. It may also be spoken among former Korean War refugees in cities such as Incheon.
Chūseinan-dō,alternatively Chūseinan Province or South Chūsei Province,was a province of Korea under Japanese rule. Its capital was at Taiden (Daejeon). The province consisted of modern-day South Chungcheong,South Korea.
The high school standardization policy was introduced in South Korea in order to reduce the gap between high schools in the region since 1974,and instead of selecting students from high schools in the region,the entire student population is divided into general schools in each district.
