Cindy and Bert were a German schlager vocal duo from Völklingen, Saarland consisting of Jutta Gusenberger (born 26 January 1948) and Norbert Berger (12 September 1945 – 14 July 2012 [1] ). They were most successful in the 1970s, and are known for their participation in the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest.
One of the labels that the duo recorded for was the BASF label. One single they recorded for the label was "Ich fand eine Hand" which was released in 1971. [2]
Gusenberger and Berger started singing together in 1965, and were married in 1967. They signed a recording contract in 1969, with singles being regularly issued, notably "Der Hund von Baskerville", an unlikely cover version of Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" which has become a collector's curiosity. Their most successful period came between 1972 and 1975 when they placed eight singles on the German chart, including their biggest hit "Immer wieder Sonntags" which reached #3.
Cindy and Bert's first attempt to represent Germany at Eurovision came in 1972, when "Geh' die Straße" finished in second place in the national selection. [3] The following year they performed two songs in the final, but could only manage eighth and ninth place. [4] They got their chance in 1974 when, unusually for Germany by internal selection, their song "Die Sommermelodie" was chosen as the country's entry for the 19th Eurovision Song Contest, held in Brighton, England, on 6 April. "Die Sommermelodie" had been considered a particularly weak song choice by German observers. It also happened to have been chosen for a contest which featured a number of already internationally established performers (Olivia Newton-John, Gigliola Cinquetti, Mouth and MacNeal), and launched the winning group ABBA into global superstardom, so its poor showing – one of four songs to share last place – did not come as a surprise. [5] Cindy and Bert entered the German selection again in 1978, their two songs finishing fourth and fifth. [6]
Cindy and Bert divorced in 1988, with Cindy starting a solo career as Cindy Berger while Bert moved into production. As a soloist, Cindy participated in two further Eurovision selections, in 1988 (finishing second) and 1991 (seventh). The couple reunited in the mid-1990s and began performing on the nostalgia circuit in addition to releasing new material. Cindy continues to release solo material, her latest album being Von Zeit zu Zeit in 2008. [7]

The record was released in September 1969, reached number three for five weeks, selling over a million copies. Ariola presented him with a gold record in October 1970.
Domenico Gerhard Gorgoglione, known professionally as Nino de Angelo, is a German singer of Italian descent known for his 1983 chart-topper "Jenseits von Eden", and who participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1989 with the song "Flieger", written by Dieter Bohlen and Joachim Horn-Bernges.
Ireen Sheer is a German-English singer. She had her first major hit in 1970 with Hey Pleasure Man. She had a top five hit on the German singles chart with "Goodbye Mama" in 1973. She went on to finish fourth at the Eurovision Song Contest 1974 representing Luxembourg, sixth at the Eurovision Song Contest 1978 representing Germany, and thirteenth at the Eurovision Song Contest 1985 representing Luxembourg again.
Lena Valaitis is a Lithuanian–German schlager singer who had her greatest success during the 1970s and 1980s. She finished second at the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest.
Katja Ebstein is a German singer. She was born in Girlachsdorf. She achieved success with songs such as "Theater" and "Es war einmal ein Jäger". She was married to Christian Bruhn, who wrote many of her songs.
Margot Eskens was a German Schlager singer, most popular in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1956 and 1957 she had two #1 hits, "Tiritomba" and "Cindy, oh Cindy", which was her biggest hit, which stayed for 25 weeks in the German Singles Top 10. Several duets with Silvio Francesco, the brother of Caterina Valente, also ensued.

The German participating broadcaster on behalf of ARD, Hessischer Rundfunk (HR), selected its entry through a national final. This was the first of Ebstein's three appearances for Germany at Eurovision; she returned in 1971 and 1980.

Immer wieder Sonntags is a German television entertainment show which is broadcast live every Sunday in the summer months from Europa Park in Rust, Southwest Germany. The series was first aired in 1995 and is produced by Werner Kimmig GmbH on behalf of Südwestrundfunk (SWR). There are usually 10-14 episodes aired during the summer season live from the theme park along with Das Beste aus Immer Wieder Sonntags. In 2002 a winter edition called Immer Wieder Samstags was broadcast for three Saturdays. The show takes its name and opening song which is sung by Stefan Mross from the 1973 hit by Eurovision singers Cindy & Bert.
