Species: [1]
The Ophidiasteridae are a family of sea stars with about 30 genera. Occurring both in the Indo-Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, ophidiasterids are greatest in diversity in the Indo-Pacific. Many of the genera in this family exhibit brilliant colors and patterns, which sometimes can be attributed to aposematism and crypsis to protect themselves from predators. Some ophidiasterids possess remarkable powers of regeneration, enabling them to either reproduce asexually or to survive serious damage made by predators or forces of nature. Some species belonging to Linckia, Ophidiaster and Phataria shed single arms that regenerate the disc and the remaining rays to form a complete individual. Some of these also reproduce asexually by parthenogenesis.
Comasteridae is a family of crinoids.
Spatangus is a genus of heart urchins in the Spatangidae family. The genus is synonymous with the previously recognised genera Prospatangus Lambert, 1902 and Spatagus. There are nine recognised species. The type species is Spatangus purpureus Müller, 1776 by subsequent designation.
Cucumariidae is a family of sea cucumbers, marine animals with elongated bodies, leathery skins and tentacles that are found on the sea bed.
Davidaster is a genus of crinoids. According to the World Register of Marine Species, a number of species that originally were included in the genus Nemaster are now included in Davidaster. Members of this genus have wedge-shaped arms, except for the basal ones, often longer than they are wide. The mouth is off centre and there are no pinnule combs after pinnule 3. The primary comb has the teeth widely separated and confluent with the lateral edge of the segment.
Comaster is a genus of crinoids.
Oxycomanthus is a genus of crinoids belonging to the family Comatulidae.
Aquilonastra is a genus of small sea stars within the family Asterinidae. It has over 20 described species.
Comatulidae is a family of comatulid crinoids. Since 2015, it replaces the family Comasteridae.
Histocidaris is a genus of sea urchins in the family Histocidaridae. Some species are known from the fossil record.
Thyone is a genus of sea cucumbers in the family Phyllophoridae.
Caenopedina is a genus of sea urchins of the family Pedinidae.
Ophiomastix is a genus of echinoderms belonging to the family Ophiocomidae.
Dichrometra is a genus of echinoderms belonging to the family Mariametridae.
Prionocidaris is a genus of echinoderms belonging to the family Cidaridae.
Nectria is a genus of echinoderms belonging to the family Goniasteridae.
Metalia is a genus of echinoderms belonging to the family Brissidae.
Comanthus is a genus of crinoid echinoderms belonging to the family Comatulidae.
Spatagobrissus is a genus of echinoderms belonging to the family Maretiidae.
Macrophiothrix is a genus of brittle stars.
