The Lancaster Canal is a canal in North West England, originally planned to run from Westhoughton in Lancashire to Kendal in south Cumbria. The section around the crossing of the River Ribble was never completed, and much of the southern end leased to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, of which it is now generally considered part.

Kendal, once Kirkby in Kendal or Kirkby Kendal, is a market town and civil parish, 8 miles (13 km) south-east of Windermere and 19 miles (31 km) north of Lancaster. Historically in Westmorland, it lies in the South Lakeland District of Cumbria, England, within the dale of the River Kent, from which comes its name. The 2011 census found a population of 28,586, making it the third largest town in Cumbria after Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness. It has fame today mainly as a centre for shopping, for its festivals and historic sights, including Kendal Castle, and as the home of Kendal mint cake. The town's grey limestone buildings have earned it the nickname "Auld Grey Town".
The A6 is one of the main historic north–south roads in England. It runs from Luton in Bedfordshire to Carlisle in Cumbria, although it formerly started at a junction with the A1 at Barnet. It is the fourth longest numbered road in Britain; only the A1, A38 and A30 are longer.

Burton-in-Kendal is a village and civil parish on the extreme southern edge of Cumbria, England. The parish contains around 660 houses and in the 2001 census had a population of 1,411, increasing at the 2011 census to 1,497. Historically within the county of Westmorland, the village straddles the A6070 road between Crooklands and Carnforth, at a point around midway between Lancaster and Kendal, and is in the shadow of the nearby limestone outcrop known as Farleton Knott.
Grayrigg Forest is a hill in Cumbria, England, located on the eastern edge of what might be considered the Lake District, and in August 2016 becoming part of the national park. Reaching 494 metres (1,621 ft) above sea level, it is attainable from the less well-known Borrowdale valley.

Oxenholme is a village in England just south of the town of Kendal, with which it has begun to merge. It is best known for Oxenholme Lake District railway station on the West Coast Main Line. Because Oxenholme does not have its own church it is technically a hamlet.

It lies on undulated and partly mountainous land, 4.9 miles (8 km) north east of Kendal, on the north side of the West Coast Main Line, and west side of the M6 motorway.
Burton-in-Kendal services is a motorway service station on the M6 motorway on the Cumbria, Lancashire border, England. It is located about 4 miles (6 km) north of Carnforth, and approximately 0.5 miles west of the Village of Burton in Kendal of which it takes its name. It is accessible to northbound traffic only, with southbound traffic having to use Killington Lake services about ten miles north. It opened on 23 October 1970, operated by Mobil Motorway Services. It is currently operated by Moto.

The A591 is a major road in Cumbria, in the north-west of England, which lies almost entirely within the Lake District national park. A 2009 poll by satellite navigation firm Garmin named the stretch of the road between Windermere and Keswick as the most popular road in Britain. The 29.8 mile stretch between Kendal and Keswick was also named the UK's best driving road, according to a specially devised driving ratio formulated by car rental firm Avis.

Holme is a village and civil parish in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria, England, about 2 miles (3.2 km) north of Burton-in-Kendal and 3 miles (4.8 km) south east of Milnthorpe. The parish had a population of 1,167 at the 2001 census, increasing to 1,486 at the 2011 Census.
Peasey Beck is a 19.6-kilometre-long (12.2 mi) beck flowing through Cumbria, England. It rises on Lambrigg Fell where it is known as the Killington Beck, flows through Killington Reservoir and converges with Stainton Beck to form the River Bela at Milnthorpe.
Burneside is a small village in South Lakeland in Cumbria, England. It is located to the north of Kendal and to the south east of Staveley, on the River Kent, just upstream from the confluence of the River Sprint. It has about 3,000 inhabitants. By the time of the 2011 Census Burneside had been transformed into an electoral ward only. The population of this ward was 1,888. The majority of the population are now recorded as living in Strickland Ketel parish.
The A629 road is an inter-Yorkshire road that runs from Skipton to Rotherham through Keighley, Halifax, Huddersfield and Chapeltown in Yorkshire, England. The road runs through North, West and South Yorkshire, but before 1974, the entire length of the road was wholly within the boundaries of the West Riding of Yorkshire. It is designated as a primary route through most of its length.
