The Coast-to-Coast Challenge (currently known as the US LBM Coast-to-Coast Challenge for sponsorship reasons and formerly known as the Pac-12 Coast-to-Coast Challenge) is an annual set of basketball games played in a neutral stadium. The Challenge was set to launch in 2020, [1] but was postponed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Challenge launched as a small-scale spiritual successor to the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series, which ran from 2007 to 2010. As such, it was originally contested by both men's and women's teams of the Pac-12 and Big 12 conferences, but in 2023 was open to men's basketball teams of all conferences, with the Pac-12 and Big 12 as the main conferences represented. [2] As a result of the 2021–2024 NCAA conference realignment, the Challenge no longer featured Pac-12 teams, and instead became a small-scale spiritual successor to the Big 12/SEC Challenge in 2024. [3] Women's basketball returned in 2024 under the name "USLBM Coast to Coast Challenge featuring the Hoopfest Women’s Basketball Classic". [4]
Every match-up within the Challenge has featured a team from Texas.

Founded as the Intercollegiate Conference of Faculty Representatives in 1896, it predates the founding of its regulating organization, the NCAA. It is based in the Chicago area in Rosemont, Illinois. For many decades the conference consisted of ten prominent universities, which accounts for its name. On August 2, 2024, the conference expanded to 18 member institutions and 2 affiliate institutions. The conference competes in the NCAA Division I and its football teams compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), formerly known as Division I-A, the highest level of NCAA competition in that sport.

The ACC–Big Ten Challenge was an in-season NCAA Division I men's college basketball series that matched up teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Big Ten Conference (B1G). ESPN was a key part of the creation of the challenge and held the broadcast rights to all the games. The ACC–Big Ten Challenge occurred early in the non-conference season, typically around late November/early December. Each game was hosted by one of the participating schools, with teams typically alternating home and away status in each successive year.
A scheduling alliance is an agreement between collegiate athletic conferences or independent college athletic teams to guarantee a set number of games to each member of a team, or to create a competitive challenge between athletic conferences. Although it is not formally recognized by the governing body, it resembles a conference in many respects. The scheduling alliance may be very informal, only involving guaranteed games, or it may have awards, such as player of the week, MVP and a championship title. It can also involve a school agreeing to play a set number of games against members of a given conference in a particular sport, although not being a member of that league.

The Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series was a four-year series of NCAA Division I men's college basketball games matching teams from the Big 12 Conference and the Pac-10 Conference. Started in 2007 and concluding in 2010, it was primarily a way to guarantee top flight competition for both conferences and garner more recognition for the level of play of both leagues in basketball. This series mirrored the ACC–Big Ten Challenge. There was a "designated" four-day window for the main part of the series matchups and a few other matchups in November and late December. Because there were more teams in the Big 12 at the time, two teams from the Pac-10 played twice against Big 12 teams. The Pac-10 had a slight advantage on the national stage. UCLA has 11 national championships, University of Arizona in 1997 & University of Oregon in 1939. The series originally had a 4-year contract which was not renewed by the conferences in 2010, bringing an end to the series. The series was brought back in a limited fashion in 2021 as the Pac-12 Coast-to-Coast Challenge.
