Coatopa is an unincorporated community in Sumter County, Alabama, United States.
Coatopa was founded in 1847 by J. R. Larkins and was located on the East Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia Railway. [2] The name Coatopa is derived from the Choctaw words koi meaning "panther," a meaning "there," and hotupa meaning "wounded." [3] A post office operated under the name Coatopa from 1866 to 1986. [4]
Intercourse is an unincorporated community located at a crossroads in Sumter County, Alabama, United States. A post office called Intercourse was established in 1840, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1913. It is named for the traffic intersection of the town's crossroads. Although a share of the residents want the unusual name changed to Siloam, state maps still identify the place as Intercourse.
Windham Springs, also known as Oregonia, Wyndham Springs, or Windhams Springs, is an unincorporated community in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. Windham Springs is named after the resort at the sulfur springs founded by Levi Windham in 1850. The area was once home to a two-story hotel building and several cabins. The hotel and springs were visited by many people for the springs' reputed healing qualities. During the Civil War, the hotel was looted by the Union Army. In May 1917, the hotel, a church, and multiple houses were destroyed in a tornado. A post office operated under the name Oregonia from 1848 to 1907.
