Cobb's Comedy Club is a stand-up comedy venue in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood. It was founded in 1982 and has had many top comedians on its stage. [1] [ citation needed ]
Originally known as Cobb's Pub, it became Cobb's Comedy Club, operated by Ron Kakiki and John Cantu [6] in 1982 at 2069 Chestnut Street in San Francisco's Marina District. [7]
In 1987, it moved to the Cannery Shopping Center in the historic Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco neighborhood, [6] where it thrived for over a decade with owners Tom and Carolyn Sawyer, who went on to run the venue for more than 25 years.
In March 2002 a five-alarm fire broke out at The Cannery. [8] Damage from the fire and subsequent flooding closed Cobb's for a month before forcing the Sawyers into a lawsuit which eventually resulted in the club's eviction from the building. [9]
With the help of some prominent comedian friends, the Sawyers raised enough money to reopen Cobb's in November 2002 at 915 Columbus Avenue in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood, [10] in the club formerly known as "Dance Your Ass Off" (disco), later Wolfgang's (rock), [11] [12] where, as of August 2022, it remains. [13]
Punch Line San Francisco is San Francisco's longest-running comedy club, and a sister club of Cobb's Comedy Club. The Punch Line was owned and operated by Bill Graham in 1978 next to the rock venue formerly known as the Old Waldorf.

The F Market streetcar runs through the area, the Powell-Hyde cable car line runs to Aquatic Park, at the edge of Fisherman's Wharf, and the Powell-Mason cable car line runs a few blocks away.
The Hungry I was a nightclub in San Francisco, California, originally located in the North Beach neighborhood. It played a major role in the history of stand-up comedy in the United States. It was launched by Eric "Big Daddy" Nord, who sold it to Enrico Banducci in 1951. The club moved to Ghirardelli Square in 1967 and operated mostly as a rock music venue until it closed in 1970.

Columbus Tower, also known as the Sentinel Building, is a mixed-use building in San Francisco, California, completed in 1907. The Boarding House was a music and comedy nightclub, located at 960 Bush Street in San Francisco, California, opened by David Allen in 1971 and closed in the early 1980s. Many comedians launched their career at The Boarding House including Robin Williams. Steve Martin's first three albums were recorded there, Let's Get Small, A Wild and Crazy Guy, and Comedy Is Not Pretty!, in whole or in part. Ellen DeGeneres and Jay Leno have said they first met at The Boarding House.

Dhaya Lakshminarayanan is an American comedian, performance artist, TV host, and storyteller. She has performed at venues such as San Francisco's Asian Art Museum, the San Jose Museum of Art, the Siren Theater, San Francisco's Punchline Comedy Club and Cobb's Comedy Club, the Brava Theatre, Throckmorton Theatre, and others. She has also performed at comedy festivals such as SF Sketchfest 2015 and SF Sketchfest 2020; the Desi Comedy Fest, America's only South Asian comedy festival; and the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival. In 2019, Lakshminarayanan, Will Durst, and W. Kamau Bell appeared as guests on KQED in regard to the controversial proposed closure of the historic San Francisco Punchline Comedy Club. The same year, she regularly opened for Greg Proops at the Punchline.
