Colombo Strikers, formerly known as Colombo Stars and Colombo Kings, is a franchise Twenty20 cricket team based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, that competes in the Lanka Premier League. In the inaugural season, Murfad Mustafa was the owner of the franchise. [1] [2] The team was supposed to be coached by former Australian cricketer Dav Whatmore. [3] [4] However he pulled out ahead of the 2020 Lanka Premier League for personal reasons and was replaced by former English cricketer Kabir Ali. [5] Kabir Ali was again replaced by Herschelle Gibbs after he tested positive for COVID-19. Angelo Mathews was announced as the icon player and Andre Russell was named as the marquee foreign player. [6] In June 2021, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) terminated the franchise ahead of the 2021 Lanka Premier League, due to financial issues. [7] [8]
In November 2021, the team changed its name to Colombo Stars after Softlogic Holdings PLC took over the ownership of the franchise. [9] In May 2023, LPL promoter and the chairman of IPG Group told that Softlogic Holdings PLC had part ways with Colombo Stars with mutual understanding. [10] In May 2023, the team changed its name to Colombo Strikers after SKKY Group took over the ownership. [11]

Pinnaduwage Chaturanga de Silva, or Chaturanga de Silva, is a Sri Lankan professional cricketer who represented his country at international level in limited overs cricket. He is primarily a left-handed batsman but bowls handy slow left-arm orthodox. He continues to play domestic and franchise cricket around the world. Chathuranga de Silva was educated at St. Aloysius College, Galle, where he started his cricket career. He is the elder brother of Sri Lankan All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva.
Binura Fernando is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for the Sri Lanka national team in limited over internationals.
Chamikara Edirisinghe is a Sri Lankan cricketer. He made his first-class debut for Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club in the 2011–12 Premier Trophy on 20 January 2012. On 4 January 2019, bowling for Saracens Sports Club against Colombo Cricket Club in the 2018–19 Premier League Tournament, Edirisinghe took 9 wickets for 87 runs in the first innings of the match. He was the leading wicket-taker for Saracens Sports Club in the tournament, with 52 dismissals in ten matches. He signed with Chorley Cricket Club to play cricket in England in the 2019 season.
Ilandari Dewage Nuwan Thushara is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer currently plays T20Is for the national team. A fast bowler with a slinging action, similar to that of Lasith Malinga, Thushara made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in February 2022 against Australia. In the 2020 season, the team was under the captaincy of Kusal Perera and coached by Hashan Tillakaratne.
The Galle Gladiators is a franchise cricket team which played in the inaugural season of the Lanka Premier League. The team is based in Galle, Southern Province, Sri Lanka. The team remained under the captaincy of Pakistani cricketer, Shahid Afridi, for the first three matches. However, due to an emergency, the captain left the league for the remaining matches of the tournament, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa assumed the captaincy. The team was coached by Pakistani cricket coach Moin Khan. The team is owned by Pakistani organizer Nadeem Omar, who also owns the Pakistan Super League's Quetta Gladiators.
The 2021 Lanka Premier League also known as Wolf777 News LPL T20, for sponsorship reasons, was the second edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) Twenty20 franchise cricket tournament in Sri Lanka. It took place from 5 to 23 December 2021. There were plans to increase the number of teams from five to six, but Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed that five teams would take part, as per the first tournament.

Jaffna Kings were the defending champions. This was the first Lanka Premier League season to feature an auction as the previous editions used to have the draft to choose players.

The 2024 Lanka Premier League was the fifth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), a Twenty20 franchise cricket tournament in Sri Lanka. The league was organized by the Sri Lanka Cricket. The tournament began on 1 July and the final was played on 21 July 2024. Five franchise teams took part in a double round-robin league followed by a playoffs. Kandy Falcons, formerly known as B-Love Kandy, were the defending champions.
