Perera is a right-arm offbreak bowler and right-handed batsman. Started as an opening batsman,Perera was the quickest Sri Lankan bowler to reach both 50 and 100 Test wickets in Sri Lanka until he was surpass by Prabath Jayasuriya. Thirimanne was a member of the Sri Lankan team that won the 2014 ICC World Twenty20,and the 2014 Asia Cup,where he was the player of the series in the Asia tournament.

Kariyawasam Indipalage Charith Asalanka is a Sri Lankan professional cricketer who currently serves as the captain of the national team in white-ball formats of T20I and ODI. He plays the limited overs formats of the game for the national team and is the 14th T20I captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team. The Australia cricket team is touring Sri Lanka in January and February 2025 to play the Sri Lanka cricket team. The tour consists of two Tests and two One Day International (ODI) matches. The Test series,where the teams are competing for the Warne–Muralitharan Trophy,forms part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship. The ODI series will serve as part of Australia's preparation for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in February 2025. In November 2024,the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed the fixtures for the tour. Australia last toured Sri Lanka in 2022.
