Perumapperuma Arachchige Kaveesha Praveen Jayawickrama (born 30 September 1998), normally known as Praveen Jayawickrama, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for the national team in all three formats. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in April 2021. [1] He had his education in St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa. and Holy Cross College, Kalutara. [2]

In August 2024, he was charged with three counts of breaching the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Anti-Corruption Code for Participants. [3] [4] [5] On 2 October 2024, the ICC banned Jayawickrama from all forms of cricket for one year, with six months of the ban suspended, after he admitted to breaching the code. [6] [7]

Domestic career

He made his first-class debut for Colts Cricket Club in the 2018–19 Premier League Tournament on 11 January 2019. [8] Prior to his first-class debut, he was named in Sri Lanka's squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. [9] He made his List A debut on 15 December 2019, for Moors Sports Club in the 2019–20 Invitation Limited Over Tournament. [10] He made his Twenty20 debut on 4 January 2020, for Moors Sports Club in the 2019–20 SLC Twenty20 Tournament. [11]

In August 2021, he was named in the SLC Blues team for the 2021 SLC Invitational T20 League tournament. [12] In July 2022, he was signed by the Jaffna Kings for the third edition of the Lanka Premier League. [13]

International career

In April 2021, Jayawickrama was named in Sri Lanka's Test squad for their series against Bangladesh. [14] He made his Test debut on 29 April 2021, for Sri Lanka against Bangladesh. [15] On his debut, he took six wickets for 92 runs in the first innings, [16] to become the fifth bowler for Sri Lanka to take a five-wicket haul on debut in a Test match. [17] He also took five wickets for 86 runs in the second innings, becoming the first bowler for Sri Lanka, and 16th overall, to take a ten-wicket haul on debut in a Test match. [18] [19] It was the best bowling performance by a left-arm spinner on debut in Test cricket, and the first bowler to take a 10-wicket haul on debut since Jason Krejza in 2008. [20]

In June 2021, Jayawickrama was named in Sri Lanka's squad for their series against England. [21] He made his One Day International (ODI) debut on 29 June 2021, for Sri Lanka against England. [22] In July 2021, he was named in Sri Lanka's squad for their series against India. [23] In August 2021, he was named in Sri Lanka's Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for their series against South Africa. [24]

In September 2021, Jayawickrama was named in Sri Lanka's squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. [25] He made his T20I debut on 12 September 2021, for Sri Lanka against South Africa. [26]

ICC Anti-Corruption Code violation charges

In August 2024, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed through a press release that Praveen Jayawickrama has been charged with three counts of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code for Participants. [3]

He was charged with failing to promptly report an approach to engage in match-fixing in future international matches and a request to contact another player for fixing during the 2021 Lanka Premier League. He was also alleged to have obstructed the investigation by deleting evidence of these approaches. He was given 14 days from 6 August 2024 to respond to the charges. [4] [5]

On 2 October 2024, the ICC banned Jayawickrama from all forms of cricket for one year, with six months suspended, after he admitted to breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. [6] [7]

Thirimanne was a member of the Sri Lankan team that won the 2014 ICC World Twenty20, and the 2014 Asia Cup, where he was the player of the series in the Asia tournament.

Pramod Bhanuka Bandara Rajapaksa,, popularly known as Bhanuka Rajapaksa, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer, who plays limited over internationals for the national team. He is a left-handed batsman who bowls right-arm medium. He was born in Colombo. Despite a prolific domestic career, Rajapaksa only made his international debut when he was called up for the T20I series against Pakistan in 2019, ten years after his first-class debut.

Kariyawasam Indipalage Charith Asalanka is a Sri Lankan professional cricketer who currently serves as the captain of the national team in white-ball formats of T20I and ODI. He plays the limited overs formats of the game for the national team and is the 14th T20I captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team. An aggressive left-handed batsman and trusted batter in the number five middle order batting position, who bowls part time handy off spin. Balapuwaduge Kusal Gimhan Mendis, popularly known as Kusal Mendis is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays in all forms of the game and a former ODI captain of the national team. He only played sixteen first-class matches before playing for the national side. In November 2017, he was named the One Day International (ODI) batsman of the year for the 2016–17 season at Sri Lanka Cricket's annual awards.

Edirimuni Chamika Dinushan Perera Karunaratne is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays all three formats as well as a national badminton player. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in February 2019. In November 2022, he was handed suspended one-year ban from all forms of cricket after violating and breaching several clauses of his player agreement during the aftermath of the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Pathum Nissanka Silva is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for Sri Lanka in all three formats of the game. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in March 2021 and is currently the permanent opening batsman. On 9 February 2024, Nissanka scored an ODI double hundred, becoming the first Sri Lankan to achieve the feat.

The Bangladesh cricket team toured Sri Lanka in April and May 2021 to play two Test matches. The Test series formed part of the inaugural 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship.

Lokumarakkalage Dilshan Madushanka is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who currently plays limited over internationals for Sri Lanka. He is a past pupil of Hungama Vijayaba Central College, Hungama.
