On December 9, 2011, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) issued a commemorative one-peso coin in celebration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of José Rizal. The coins are in the same dimensions as the circulating one peso coins with Rizal's face from the front instead of in profile. The new coin also has the new logo of the central bank and is legal tender with the current series. [1]
On December 18, 2013, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas issued a commemorative ten-peso coin in celebration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Andres Bonifacio. The coins are in the same dimensions, but the design changed. These also featured the new logo of the central bank and is also legal tender.
On December 22, 2014, the BSP issued three commemorative coins, a five-peso coin to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Leyte Gulf Landings, [2] a five-peso coin honoring Overseas Filipinos with the theme "Bagong Bayani" [2] and a ten-peso coin celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Apolinario Mabini. [2]
On January 14, 2015, the BSP issued two limited edition commemorative coins for the papal visit of Pope Francis, a 50-peso coin made of nickel-brass steel and a 500-peso coin made of Nordic gold with gold plating. A special logo with the theme "Mercy and Compassion" was minted on the reverse side of both coins, following the Pope's papal bull of indiction proclaimed later that year to mark the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. The coins are minted under a licensing agreement with the Vatican. Both coins are legal tender. [3] [4] Production and issuance of two additional silver and gold coins in 1000-peso and 10,000-peso denominations were called off due to limitations in the procurement process. [5]
On December 21, 2015, the BSP issued a commemorative 10-peso coin in honor of General Miguel Malvar, in time for the 150th year birth anniversary. [6]
On January 27, 2017, the BSP issued a commemorative one-peso coin in honor of the Philippines' Chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). [7]
In August and November 2017, the BSP issued commemorative one-peso coins and 10-peso coin both honoring the centennial anniversary of the birth of educator and historian Horacio de la Costa and the 150th anniversary of the birth of three officers of the Philippine Revolutionary Army, Generals Artemio Ricarte, Isidoro Torres and Antonio Luna.
In 2018 and 2019, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas issued commemorative coins in commemoration of the anniversary of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, two 500-peso silver coins, with one commemorating the 25th anniversary of the formation of the current Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas [8] and one commemorating 70 Years of Central Banking in the Philippines (in reference to the formal establishment of the original Central Bank of the Philippines/Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in 1949). [9] A 10,000 peso gold coin was also issued to commemorate 70 years of Central Banking in the Philippines. [10]
On March 11, 2022, the BSP issued a commemorative 125-peso coin to honor the 125th martyrdom anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal. [11]

The Philippine peso, also referred to by its Filipino name piso, is the official currency of the Philippines. It is subdivided into 100 sentimo, also called centavos.
Banknotes of the Philippine peso are issued by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas for circulation in the Philippines. The smallest amount of legal tender in wide circulation is ₱20 and the largest is ₱1000. The front side of each banknote features prominent people along with buildings, and events in the country's history while the reverse side depicts landmarks and animals.
Philippine peso coins are issued by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas for circulation in the Philippines and are currently available in seven denominations. The Philippine peso has been in use since Spanish rule.

The New Design Series (NDS) (also known as the BSP Series after the establishment of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas) was the name used to refer to banknotes of the Philippine peso issued from 1985 to 2013 and the coins of the Philippine peso issued from 1995 to 2017. The banknotes were printed until 2013 (with 5-peso note were printed until 1995, 10-peso note until 2001, 20 and 1000 peso notes until 2012, and 50, 100, 200 and 500 peso notes until 2013), legal tender until December 31, 2015, and can be exchanged with NGC notes until its demonetization on January 3, 2018 where they co-existed with the NGC banknotes from December 16, 2010 to January 3, 2018. The coins were minted and issued from c. December 1995 to November 30, 2017, and remain legal tender as of 2023. It was succeeded by the New Generation Currency (NGC) Series issued on December 16, 2010, for banknotes and November 30, 2017, for coins.

Quezon is currently featured on the front side of the note, while the Banaue Rice Terraces and the Asian palm civet is featured on the reverse side.
The Philippine fifty-peso note (₱50) is a denomination of Philippine currency. Philippine president and former House Speaker Sergio Osmeña is currently featured on the front side of the bill, while the Taal Lake and the giant trevally are featured on the reverse side.
The Philippine one hundred-peso note (₱100) is a denomination of Philippine currency. Philippine president Manuel A. Roxas is currently featured on the front side of the bill, while the Mayon Volcano and the whale shark are featured on the reverse side.
The Philippine two hundred-peso note is a denomination of Philippine currency. President Diosdado Macapagal is currently featured on the front side of the note, and since 2017, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's inauguration as the 14th President of the Philippines is on the lower-left side on the note just in front of the scene of the Declaration of Philippine Independence, and the scene of the opening of the Malolos Congress is also present on the obverse side of the note. From 2010 to 2017, the Aguinaldo Shrine and the Barasoain Church were featured on the front side of the note. The Chocolate Hills and the Philippine tarsier is featured on the reverse side. Currently, it is the rarest banknote circulating in the country, and thus is seen more as a novelty than legal tender.
The Philippine five hundred-peso note (₱500) is a denomination of Philippine currency. Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. and his wife, President Corazon Aquino are currently featured on the front side of the note, while the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park and the blue-naped parrot are featured on the reverse side. BSP will issue the polymer version of this denomination by 2023 and will be the second denomination in this format after the 1000-Piso polymer banknote issued last April 2022.
