Coonawarra is a south-eastern suburb in the city of Darwin, in the Northern Territory of Australia. [3]

The suburb's name is derived from HMAS Coonawarra, a naval establishment which was located in the suburb until 2003. 'Coonawarra' itself is an Aboriginal word which means "swan". [4] [1]
HMAS Coonawarra is a Royal Australian Navy (RAN) base located in Darwin, Northern Territory, and is home to nine fleet units of the RAN. The current commander is Captain Moses Raudino, ADC, RAN.
