Smedvig ASA, ("Smedvig"), was a Norwegian offshore oil rig company headquartered in Stavanger until it was acquired by rig newcomer SeaDrill of tanker mogul John Fredriksen. At time of the merger Smedvig operated two semi submersibles, one drillship and one jack up rig in the Norwegian and British sector of the North Sea. A fleet of seven tender rigs were operated in South East Asia from the Singaporean subsidiary Smedvig Asia. As part of the merger, Smedvig's staff was transferred to Seadrill with Smedvig senior personnel assuming key positions in Seadrill. Smedvig was delisted from the OSE and NYSE, while Seadrill is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange.
Rocksource was a technology-based exploration and production petroleum company listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. The company was established as a partnership between Norwegian entrepreneurs, oil industry professionals and academics, Jonny Hesthammer and John Howell from the University of Bergen. The company focused on two areas. For exploration the company developed algorithms for the processing of Controlled Source Electromagnetic (CSEM) data which were used as part of an integrated exploration process. Secondly the company successfully exported "North Sea style" reservoir management techniques to the highly conservative onshore gas fields of east Texas where it bought old oil and gas fields and revitalized them.

Oselvar is a subsea oil field, abandoned since April 2018, located 250 km (160 mi) southwest of Stavanger in the southern Norwegian section of the North Sea, close to the British border. Oselvar was discovered in 1991. The field is located at 23 kilometres (14 mi) distance from the Ula field to which it was tied back. The original estimated reserves at Oselvar were 38 million barrels of oil and 4 billion cubic metres of natural gas. The water depth at location is 72 metres (236 ft). In January 2022, DNO ASA reportedly had approval from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to remove subsea facilities from the Oselvar field. The Oselvar field installations were to be decommissioned by the end of 2022.
Goliat field is an offshore oil field in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea. It is located 85 kilometres (53 mi) northwest of Hammerfest. The license is owned by Vår Energi AS and Equinor ASA (35%). It was awarded in 1997. Oil was discovered in 2000. The field development concept was approved by the Government of Norway on 8 May 2009. The field will be developed by using Goliat FPSO, a floating production storage and offloading unit.
