DOA is an album by American musician Ericdoa, released on January 19, 2024, by Listen to the Kids and Interscope Records. The album was supported by three singles, "Kickstand", "Dancinwithsomebawdy", and "Sweet Tooth".

Background

The album's aesthetic was inspired by Puerto Rican culture, specifically the Young Lords. [1] [2] [3] Ericdoa was also inspired by the music of artists including Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, and Willie Colón. [1] [2] [3] The album's cover artwork was inspired by a woman selling clothing that he met in Bushwick, Brooklyn who "embodied the selfless maternal spirit" of Latin women. [3] [4]

Release

On March 4, 2023, Ericdoa released a single in collaboration with Riot Games, ">One - Greater Than One", the theme for the Valorant character Gekko. [5] [6]

On September 22, 2023, the album's lead single, "Kickstand", was released, alongside a music video. [7] [8] [9] Ericdoa also announced the "Dead on Arrival Tour" with singer Bixby in support of the album. [10] [11] The tour began on January 25, 2024 in San Diego and concluded on March 9, 2024 in Los Angeles. [4] [12] The album's second single, "Dancinwithsomebawdy" was released on November 3, 2023, alongside a music video. [13] [14] Ericdoa released the album's third single on December 15, 2023, titled "Sweet Tooth". [15] [16] The album released on January 19, 2024. [17] [18] [19]

In promotion of the album, Ericdoa conducted a livestream of a two hour long freestyle. [20] A line from the freestyle, "Imagine if Ninja got a low taper fade", became an internet meme, receiving over 17 million views. [1]

Otis Robinson's review for NME described the album as a "restless and electrifying" mix of genres including emo, hyperpop, trap, pop rock, and shoegaze. [22] Alessandra Rincon of Ones to Watch wrote that the album sounded "abrasive, raw, and direct without sacrificing an ounce of the frivolous, spirited, and party-ready atmosphere at the core of it all." [23] Writing for Dork , Martyn Young described the album as a "fevered rush through everything that makes his music thrilling" that "sounds abrasive, raw and direct but also sounds frivolous, ebullient and party-ready at the same time." [21]

Then I'll Be Happy is a collaborative extended play (EP) by the American musicians Glaive and Ericdoa. It was released by Interscope Records and Listen to the Kids on October 6, 2021. After becoming leaders of both the hyperpop and digicore genres, the frequent collaborators recorded the EP in a North Carolina Airbnb and a studio. The EP experiments with sounds beyond the hyperpop genre, and contains lyrics that are written as angsty aphorisms. The EP was produced by Whethan with contributions from a variety of record producers including Ericdoa and Nick Mira. Then I'll Be Happy was promoted with two singles and the Then I'll Be Happy Tour across North America. It received mixed reviews from critics, citing the lack of chemistry between the duo.

<i>Dear Amelia</i> 2022 studio album by Renforshort

Dear Amelia is the debut studio album by the Canadian singer-songwriter Renforshort. It was released by Interscope Records on July 8, 2022. After performing at open mic nights, posting covers of songs to YouTube, and releasing music independently, she garnered critical acclaim and signed with Interscope in 2020. After releasing two extended plays with Interscope, Renforshort worked and performed with high-profile musicians and contributed to the soundtrack of the 2020 film Clouds. The album contains appearances from the drummer Travis Barker and the singer-songwriter Jake Bugg, who is one of Renforshort's favorite musicians of all time. "Cloak n Dagger" is a song by the American musicians Glaive and Ericdoa, from their collaborative extended play (EP) Then I'll Be Happy (2021). It was released by Interscope Records and Listen to the Kids on January 21, 2021, as the EP's lead single. It was recorded in one day at an Airbnb in North Carolina during January 2021. It was released alongside a music video created on the same day as the song, which contained cameo appearances from the song's producers, Glasear, Kimj, and Whethan. Glaive and Ericdoa wrote the song alongside the producers. It is a fast-paced rap, pop, and emo song driven by retro synth layers, a "woozy" instrumental, and drums. The song is written about a breakup; the chorus is written about saying "fuck you" to somebody the duo wants to "rot in hell". "Cloak n Dagger" received positive reviews from critics; some thought it was a standout on Then I'll Be Happy and others highlighted the song's chorus.
