PTV Cagayan de Oro begin its broadcasts on Channel 8 (DXHB-TV) as the affiliate of Government Television (GTV) through National Media Production Center and later renamed Maharlika Broadcasting System (MBS) in 1980. In 1986, after the People Power Revolution, MBS was renamed People's Television (PTV) followed by frequency from Channel 8 to Channel 7 with the call sign DXBS-TV. On March 26, 1992, by virtue of Republic Act 7306, PTV became People's Television Network, Inc. (PTNI).
Then in 1995, DXNL-TV Channel 27 was launched by GMA Network through Citynet Television which was turned into a music channel, Channel V Philippines from 1999 to 2001. In 2001, the station was launched by National Broadcasting Network (NBN) and adopted mostly programs that showcase the programs of the Arroyo administration. On October 6, 2011, NBN was renamed back as People's Television Network (PTV), eventually, after fifteen years of broadcasting of the original Channel 7. In 2018, after it was lasted for seventeen years in Cagayan de Oro, the station is currently off the air.

The network's main offices and flagship transmitter is located at Panay Avenue, Brgy. South Triangle also in Quezon City. Founded by James Lindenberg, and prior to its privatization, it was the sister network of current government owned and controlled Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation; both networks were sequestered after the 1986 People Power Revolution, and formerly an attached agency of the now-PCO, which retained 20% of RPN's non-controlling shares following privatization.
People's Television Network is the flagship state broadcaster owned by the Government of the Philippines. Founded in 1974, PTV is the main brand of People's Television Network, Inc. (PTNI), one of the attached agencies under the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

Currently, GNN is available as a free-to-air satellite channel via SES-9 satellite transponder through GSAT, through its terrestrial free TV stations in key provinces, and also on SkyCable in Mega Manila since November 2022. DXVM-TV, was a television station of Broadcast Enterprises and Affiliated Media, Inc. Its studios and transmitter are located at A. Velez., Cagayan de Oro. This is also the former relay station of RMN in Cagayan de Oro from 1995 to 2003 in returned from 2011 to 2016.
