David Edge (born November 12, 1954, in Blackpool, Lancashire, United Kingdom) is a former long-distance runner, who represented Canada at two consecutive Summer Olympics in the men's marathon. [1] [2]

Biography

In Blackpool, he had been a policeman. [3] He moved to Canada in 1981, and joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. [3]

At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California, he did not finish. Four years later in Seoul, South Korea he finished in 67th place. [4] [5]

He is Jewish, and competed in the 1981 Maccabiah Games, winning a silver medal in the 10,000 m and a bronze medal in the mini-marathon, and in the 1989 Maccabiah Games. [6] [7] Edge won the silver medal at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in the marathon, behind Australia's Robert de Castella. [3]

In 1984, he won the Ottawa Race Weekend marathon, and was the Canadian national marathon champion.

A resident of Newport Beach, California USA, Edge is married to Ireland's former long-distance runner Carey May. [8]

The 11th Maccabiah Games brought 3,450 athletes to Israel from 35 nations. The Opening Ceremony was held on July 7, 1981, before a crowd of 53,000 and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin in Ramat Gan Stadium, with 3,500 Jewish athletes parading past him. Representative Jack Kemp and a supporter of Israel, marched with the United States team. Israel won the most medals (199), with 65 gold. The United States won 188 medals, 85 gold. South Africa, Britain, and Canada had the next-most total medals.

David Zilberman is a Canadian Olympic freestyle wrestler. He is a two-time Canadian champion. In 2003, he won a bronze medal at the Pan American Championships, wrestling at 84 kg. In 2004, he won a silver medal at the FISU World University Championships, at 84 kg. In 2005, he won the Canada Cup gold medal, and the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships silver medal. He and partner Josh Binstock were 2014 Canadian national champions, and represented Canada at the 2015 Pan American Games and the 2016 Summer Olympics. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, he and Binstock earned silver medals.

The 2017 Maccabiah Games, also referred to as the 20th Maccabiah Games, were the 20th edition of the Maccabiah Games. They took place from 4 to 17 July 2017, in Israel. The Maccabiah Games are open to Jewish athletes from around the world, and to all Israeli citizens regardless of their religion. A total of 10,000 athletes competed, a Maccabiah Games record, making the 2017 Maccabiah Games the third-largest sporting competition in the world. The athletes were from 85 countries, also a record. Countries represented for the first time included the Bahamas, Barbados, Cambodia, the Cayman Islands, Haiti, Malta, Morocco, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Trinidad. The athletes competed in 45 sports.

Alfred König, also known as Ali Ferit Gören and Alfred Göring, was an Austrian-Turkish Olympic sprinter. He was Austrian national champion in the 200m juniors in 1932, the 400m in 1936, the 4x100m relay in 1937, and the 4x400m relay in 1934 and 1937. At the 1935 Maccabiah Games in Mandatory Palestine, he won a gold medal in the 200m, was part of the gold medal winning 4x400m relay, won a silver medal in the 400m, and won a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay. He competed at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany.

Ronald S. Barak is an American gymnast. At the 1961 Maccabiah Games he won eight gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal. At the 1964 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships he won the all-around competition, the horizontal bars, and the parallel bars, and at the 1964 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) National Gymnastics Competition he was the champion in the horizontal bars. He competed in eight events at the 1964 Summer Olympics.

Gordon Orlikow is a Canadian former decathlon, heptathlon, and hurdles competitor who won medals in the 73rd Drake Relays, the 1981 Maccabiah Games and 1985 Maccabiah Games in Israel, and the 1987 Pan American Games. He is a former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Athletics Canada, and a member of the Canadian Olympic Committee. He is also a Senior Client Partner at Korn/Ferry International.
