David Cook (born July 5,1971) is an American politician serving as a member of the Texas House of Representatives from the 96th district. Cook was first elected in November 2020 and assumed office in January 2021. [1] He is a member of the Republican Party and was the mayor of Mansfield,Texas,from May 2008 to January 2021. [2] [3]
Cook is a graduate of Mansfield High School,Stephen F. Austin State University,and Texas Wesleyan University School of Law. He used to be an aid to former state senator,Chris Harris and worked in Harris' law firm. Cook then became a partner with Harris in January 2004 and later a managing partner of the firm. David was elected mayor of Mansfield in May 2008 and announced his resignation in December 2019,to run for the 96th district of the Texas House of Representatives. [3]
David Scott Mann is an American lawyer and politician. A member of the Democratic Party,he served as the United States representative for Ohio's 1st congressional district from 1993 to 1995. He also served as a member of the Cincinnati City Council from 2013 to 2022 and from 1974 to 1992,during which time he served as mayor of Cincinnati from 1980 to 1982 and again in 1991. Mann ran in the 2021 Cincinnati mayoral election,but lost to Hamilton County Clerk of Courts Aftab Pureval.
Texas's 22nd congressional district of the United States House of Representatives covers a largely suburban southwestern portion of the Greater Houston metropolitan area. The district includes most of Fort Bend County,including most of the cities of Sugar Land,Rosenberg,Needville and the county seat of Richmond as well as the county's share of the largely unincorporated Greater Katy area west of Houston. He served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1974 to 1986,as the 3rd Mayor of Jacksonville from 1987 to 1991,and represented School District 7 in the Duval County School Board from 2004 to 2012. The 2020 United States elections were held on Tuesday,November 3,2020. The Democratic Party's nominee,former vice president Joe Biden,defeated incumbent Republican president Donald Trump in the presidential election. Despite losing seats in the House of Representatives,Democrats retained control of the House and gained control of the Senate. As a result,the Democrats obtained a government trifecta,the first time since the elections in 2008 that the party gained unified control of Congress and the presidency. With Trump losing his bid for re-election,he became the first defeated incumbent president to have overseen his party lose the presidency and control of both the House and the Senate since Herbert Hoover in 1932. This was the first time since 1980 that either chamber of Congress flipped partisan control in a presidential year,and the first time Democrats did so since 1948.

This off-year election included gubernatorial elections in Kentucky,Louisiana,and Mississippi;regularly-scheduled state legislative elections in Louisiana,Mississippi,Virginia,and New Jersey;and special elections for seats in various state legislatures. After coming in second place in the first round of voting in May,Parker faced off against Deborah Peoples,the Tarrant County Democratic Party chair,in the run-off election on June 5,2021. Parker received 53.5% of the vote in the nominally non-partisan election.
