The speaker of the United States House of Representatives,commonly known as the speaker of the House,is the presiding officer of the United States House of Representatives. The office was established in 1789 by Article I,Section II,of the U.S. Constitution. By custom and House rules,the speaker is the political and parliamentary leader of the House and is simultaneously its presiding officer,de facto leader of the body's majority party,and the institution's administrative head. Speakers also perform various other administrative and procedural functions. Given these several roles and responsibilities,the speaker usually does not personally preside over debates—that duty is instead delegated to members of the House from the majority party—nor regularly participate in floor debates.
The Texas Legislature is the state legislature of the US state of Texas. It is a bicameral body composed of a 31-member Senate and a 150-member House of Representatives. The state legislature meets at the Capitol in Austin. El Paso,Texas,held a first round of general elections on May 6,2017,to elect the mayor and city council. The run-off election was June 10,2017. Incumbent Mayor Oscar Leeser was eligible for another term,but announced in July 2016 he would not seek another term. Leeser had a cancer-related surgery in 2016,but stated that his decision was not because of his health. Instead,it was because he "ran to do things I thought were really important for our community and I did that."

The 2022 Texas House of Representatives elections were held on November 8,2022,to elect representatives from all 150 House of Representatives districts across the U.S. state of Texas. It was held alongside numerous other federal,state,and local elections,including the 2022 Texas State Senate election. The winners of this election served in the 88th Texas Legislature,with seats apportioned according to the 2020 United States census.
Following statewide primaries held on March 5,2024,the 2024 Texas House of Representatives election will be held on November 5,2024. The winners of this election will serve in the 89th Texas Legislature. It will be held alongside numerous other federal,state,and local elections,including the 2024 U.S. presidential election and the 2024 Texas Senate election.
