Harris County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas;as of the 2020 census,the population was 4,731,145,making it the most populous county in Texas and the third most populous county in the United States. Its county seat is Houston,the largest city in Texas and fourth largest city in the United States. The county was founded in 1836 and organized in 1837. It is named for John Richardson Harris,who founded the town of Harrisburg on Buffalo Bayou in 1826. The Brownstone Lane murders were the mass murders of four people at a residence on Brownstone Lane in Houston,Texas. On June 20,1992,three men tied up six people and shot all of them in the head execution-style. Four of the six victims died. The perpetrators:Marion Butler Dudley,Arthur "Squirt" Brown Jr.,and Antonia "Tony" Lamone Dunson were convicted of capital murder. Dudley and Brown were sentenced to death,while Dunson was sentenced to life in prison.
Tom DeLay,a Republican U.S. Representative from Texas from 1979–83,and from 1985–2006 and the House Majority Leader from 2003–05,was convicted in 2010 of money laundering and conspiracy charges related to illegal campaign finance activities aimed at helping Republican candidates for Texas state office in the 2002 elections. In 2013,a Texas Court of Appeals panel acquitted DeLay when it overturned his conviction. This decision was affirmed by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals on October 1,2014. DeLay had three years from that date,i.e. until October 1,2017,to file any lawsuits for wrongful action.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals (CCA) is the court of last resort for all criminal matters in Texas. The Court,which is based in the Supreme Court Building in Downtown Austin,is composed of a Presiding Judge and eight judges.
The Texas Courts of Appeals are part of the Texas judicial system. The Republican and Democratic Parties nominated their candidates by primaries held March 6,2018. Convention Parties nominated their candidates at a series of conventions. County Conventions held March 17,2018,District Conventions held March 24,2018,and a State Convention held April 14,2018. At the present time there is only one Convention Party in Texas,that is the Libertarian Party. Other parties may seek to achieve ballot access.
Mary Lou Keel has been a Judge of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals since 2016. Between 1995 and 2016 she presided over the 232nd District Court in Harris County,Texas. She had previously served as assistant district attorney in Harris County. She received her undergraduate degree in English from the University of Texas in 1982. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center in 1985. Her husband,Jim Hippard Jr.,is an attorney. They have three children.
The 2022 Texas Attorney General election took place on November 8,2022 to elect the Attorney General of Texas. Incumbent Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton won re-election to his third term. Paxton won all but 21 counties and won the popular vote by a margin of 9.7%,underperforming Governor Greg Abbott's concurrent bid for re-election by 1.1%.

She was previously the City of Houston’s first appointed Anti-Gang Task Force Director,and the executive director of Crime Stoppers of Houston. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
The 2022 Texas elections were held on November 8,2022. Primary elections were held on March 1,with runoffs held on May 24 for primary candidates who did not receive a majority of the vote.
