The Deans' Cup is an annual charity basketball game between Columbia Law School (CLS) and New York University School of Law (NYU), two of the top law schools in the country. First held in 2002, the game raises money for public interest and community service organizations at both universities and is sponsored by many large New York City law firms. A game between faculty members of the two schools is held at halftime. The game is the single largest law school event in the United States, and has raised more than a half million dollars for public interest foundations at the two law schools.
The 2020 and 2021 editions of the Deans' Cup were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the game returned in 2022 and was played at Columbia University's Levien Gymnasium on April 9, 2022. NYU won by a final score of 48-34.

Columbia Law School (CLS) is the law school of Columbia University, a private Ivy League university in New York City. It was founded in 1858 as the Columbia College Law School. The university was known for its legal scholarship dating back to the 18th century. Graduates of the university's colonial predecessor, King's College, include such notable early-American legal figures as John Jay, the first chief justice of the United States, and Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the Treasury, who were co-authors of The Federalist Papers.
Debra Frances "Camryn" Manheim is an American actress who first came to attention with her off-Broadway one-woman show, "Wake Up, I'm Fat", in 1994. She is known for her portrayals of Ellenor Frutt on The Practice (1997–2004), Delia Banks on Ghost Whisperer (2006–2010), "Control" on Person of Interest (2013–2015), Lieutenant Cosgrove on Stumptown (2019–2020), and Gladys Presley in the 2005 miniseries Elvis. Since 2022, she has played the lead role of Kate Dixon on Law & Order. Manheim's film credits include Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997), Happiness (1998), What Planet Are You From? (2000), Scary Movie 3 (2003), Twisted (2004), Dark Water (2005), An Unfinished Life (2005), and Cop Car (2015). She is the recipient of a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, in addition to three Screen Actors Guild Award nominations.
John Edward Sexton is an American legal scholar. He is the Benjamin F. Butler Professor of Law at New York University where he teaches at the law school and NYU's undergraduate colleges. Sexton served as the fifteenth president of NYU, from 2002 to 2015. During his time as president, NYU's stature rose dramatically into the ranks of the world's top universities, and it became the world's first global network university. Sexton has been called a "transformational" figure in higher education and was named by Time Magazine as one of the United States' 10 best college presidents.

In all, he argued 40 civil rights cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, and won almost all of them.
Richard L. Revesz is an American lawyer and academic. He is the administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. During his government employment, he is on leave as the AnBryce Professor of Law at the New York University School of Law. He served as dean of the New York University School of Law from 2002 to 2013, and as the director of the American Law Institute from 2014 to 2023.
Francis S. Levien Gymnasium is a 2,500-seat arena at Columbia University in Morningside Heights, Manhattan, New York City. Named for New York lawyer-industrialist Francis S. Levien (1905–95), it is home to the Columbia Men's and Women's Basketball teams and the Women's Volleyball team. It is also used for gym classes in between games. Part of the Marcellus Hartley Dodge Physical Fitness Center, Levien Gym opened in 1974 as a replacement for the old University Gym, which is still used for intramural sports.

The Columbia Lions basketball team is the basketball team that represents Columbia University in New York City. The school's team currently competes in the Ivy League. The team's last appearance in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament was in 1968. The Lions are led by head coach Jim Engles. Their home games are held in the Levien Gymnasium.
