The Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, generally known as NYU Skirball, is an 850-seat theater at 566 LaGuardia Place in Manhattan, New York, owned by New York University. It was named after philanthropist Jack H. Skirball. The theatre was completed in October 2003 and cost approximately $40 million. [1] The architect was Kevin Roche, John Dinkeloo and Associates. The institution typically presents two seasons of curated public performances, talks, and events per year. It hosted the BFDI x Inanimate Insanity 2024 Tour from 28 to 30 June 2024
NYU Skirball presents live events in genres ranging from dance, theater and performing arts to comedy, music and film. It is known for presenting international contemporary performing artists including Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, [2] Toshiki Okada, [3] Jérôme Bel, [4] and Forced Entertainment [5] as well as local artists such as Elevator Repair Service, [6] The Wooster Group, [7] Big Dance Theater, [8] and International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE). NYU Skirball connects academics with performing artists in their "Office Hours" [9] video series and "Indefinite Articles [10] " commissioned essays. It also screens film broadcasts of theater productions from National Theatre Live and hosts talks by speakers from politics, arts, sciences, academia, and more. Past speakers include John Kerry, [11] Al Gore, [12] Justin Trudeau [13] among others.
Alvin Ailey Jr. was an American dancer, director, choreographer, and activist who founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (AAADT). He created AAADT and its affiliated Alvin Ailey American Dance Center as havens for nurturing Black artists and expressing the universality of the African-American experience through dance.

Pam Tanowitz is an American dancer, choreographer, professor, and founder of the company, Pam Tanowitz Dance. She is a current staff member at Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts where she teaches dance and choreography. Her work has been performed at notable performance venues such as the Joyce Theater, the Joyce SoHo, and New York Live Arts, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Muna Tseng is a Chinese-American dancer, choreographer, author and lecturer. She has lived in New York since 1978 and in 1984 founded Muna Tseng Dance Projects in New York City. She created over 40 dance productions and performed in over 30 cities and festivals in 15 countries. Since 1990 she has been the director and executrix of her late brother Tseng Kwong Chi's photography archive. Troy Powell also known as Troy O'Neil Powell is an American dancer, choreographer, educator, and director. He is a former principal dancer with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and former artistic director of AAADT's second company, Ailey 2. Powell was fired in July 2020 after an independent investigation into allegations of sexual abuse at the Ailey School concluded that he had engaged in "inappropriate communications" with students who were interested in joining the Ailey 2.
Benjamin Schlanger was a theater architect. Some of the theaters he designed include: the Jewel Theater at 711 Kings Highway, Brooklyn, City Cinemas I-II, the Vistavision Todd-AO Patriot Theaters at Colonial Williamsburg, Grade Arts Center, the Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theater, at Symphony Space and the Waldo Theatre. He received a Certificate of Merit from the Municipal Art Society with co-designer Abraham W. Geller for Cinema I-II. He also played a key design role in: the United Nations General Assembly Building and the Metropolitan Opera House in the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts as well as the Place des Arts, the Sydney Opera House and the John F. Kennedy Center. He chaired the Committee on Auditorium and Theater Architecture of the American Institute of Architects and was a trustee of the National Institute of Architectural Education. In addition, he was a contributor to The Architectural Forum and The Architectural Record and in 1964 was the recipient of the Albert S. Bard architectural award.

Jenny Schlenzka is a Berlin-born curator of time-based art, currently serving as Executive Artistic Director at Performance Space New York. Schlenzka was the first full-time curator dedicated to performance art at The Museum of Modern Art and established the Sunday Sessions program at MoMA PS1. In March 2023, she was selected to become the next director of Berlin's Martin-Gropius-Bau; her term will begin in September 2023.
