Sushi Nakazawa is an upscale Japanese sushi restaurant located on Commerce Street in Manhattan. The restaurant has been praised for its quality and preparation. [1]
The restaurant was opened in 2013 by Maurizio de Rosa and Alessandro Borgognone who hired Jiro Ono's protege Daisuke Nakazawa, after watching David Gelb's documentary, Jiro Dreams of Sushi . [2] [3] [4]
There are only ten seats at the counter and 25 seats in the dining room. [1] In 2016, the restaurant expanded to a space next door, opening a lounge with an a la carte menu. [5]
In 2018, Sushi Nakazawa opened a second location in the Old Post Office on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. [6]
In December of its opening year, Pete Wells named Sushi Nakazawa among only six restaurants with a perfect four-star review from the New York Times . [1]

David Chang is an American restaurateur, author, podcaster, and television personality. He is the founder of the Momofuku restaurant group. In 2011, he co-founded the influential food magazine Lucky Peach, which lasted for 25 quarterly volumes into 2017. In 2018, Chang created, produced, and starred in a Netflix original series called Ugly Delicious, and through his Majordomo Media group, he has produced and/or starred in more television and podcasts. On November 29, 2020, he became the first celebrity to win the $1,000,000 top prize for his charity, Southern Smoke Foundation, and the fourteenth overall million dollar winner on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

Sukiyabashi Jiro is a sushi restaurant in Ginza, Chūō, Tokyo, Japan. It is owned by sushi master Jiro Ono. He also previously operated it as the head chef, but stepped aside in favor of his son Yoshikazu Ono by 2023 due to ill health. It was the first sushi restaurant in the world to receive three stars from the Michelin Guide, although it was removed from the Michelin Guide in November 2019 as it does not receive reservations from the general public, instead requiring reservations to be made through the concierge of a luxury hotel.

The film follows Jiro Ono, a then-85-year-old sushi master and owner of Sukiyabashi Jiro, previously a Michelin three-star restaurant. Sukiyabashi Jiro is a 10-seat, sushi-only restaurant located in a Tokyo subway station. As of 2023, Jiro Ono serves a tasting menu of roughly 20 courses, for a minimum of JP¥55,000 (US$270).

Nakazawa lived and worked in Seattle, at Sushi Kashiba under chef Shiro Kashiba, another Jiro Ono mentored chef, for several years before coming to New York to open Sushi Nakazawa, where he remains.
