Bungalow is an Indian restaurant located in the East Village neighborhood of New York City. [1]

Contents

History

The restaurant was founded by chef Vikas Khanna and Jimmy Rizvi, a restaurateur, and opened in 2024. [2] [3] [4] Khanna has said it will be his "last restaurant" or "one of" his last restaurants. [5] [6] The restaurant's interior draws inspiration from country clubs in India, [7] [8] and was designed by Rizvi's sister, Shaila Rizvi. [6]

The Infatuation included Bungalow on a list of the "Toughest Reservations" to get in New York City in June 2024. [9]

Reviews and accolades

Writing for Bloomberg in June 2024, Bobby Ghosh referred to the restaurant as the "most exciting" recently opened Indian restaurant in New York City. [3] In a review published by Gotham , Chandler Presson praised Bungalow's interior design and food. [10]

The restaurant was added to the Michelin Guide for New York City in June 2024, alongside other restaurants including Coqodaq. [11]

The Tamarind restaurant is an Indian restaurant in Mayfair, London, opened in 1995. The restaurant was founded by businessmen Vipin Khanna and his youngest son, Aditya Khanna. It won a Michelin star in 2001, the first Indian restaurant to do so. The Michelin star was won under then chef, Atul Kochhar. Jonathan Gold, in the Los Angeles Times, wrote that he had been impressed by its "frank attempt to produce Indian food with the sheen and polish of white-tablecloth European cuisine", though he chiefly recalled "the wine list, the flowers, and the cost." The Michelin Guide described the food and menu as "extensive à la carte of generous dishes perfect for sharing, with a selection of small plates like Rajasthani churi chaat to start, and a good selection of curries and biryanis for the main course." In 2023, Tamarind was featured in an article published by Tatler on "The most outstanding Indian restaurants in London".
