Tramezzini NYC was a family-owned sandwich shop and Italian eatery in New York City [1] [2] [3] that was the first to serve authentic Venetian sandwiches in the United States. [4] [5] [6] [7] The sandwich shop closed in 2023. [8]

History

Tramezzini NYC was founded by and is currently managed by two Italian brothers, Filippo Paccagnella and Massimiliano Paccagnella, who thought of the idea in 2015. [9] [10] Prior to starting Tramezzini NYC, Filippo Paccagnella was an architect and designer. [11] Both grew up in Pianiga, a small village in Veneto, Italy. [12]

In 2016, Tramezzini NYC debuted as a vendor at Smorgasburg, [13] a popular street food fair with multiple locations in New York and Brooklyn. [11] [14] [15] They became known for importing authentic bread and ingredients from Veneto, Italy.

Davide Pedon joined the owners as honorary co-founder in 2017 ,and they opened the first Tramezzini shop in USA [10] In May 2019, Tramezzini NYC was invited to the NYC Food Fair in Osaka where they introduced Venetian sandwiches for the first time in Japan. [14] [16]

Tramezzini NYC appeared on “Fork Yeah” by Thrillist in the episode “Meet the Tramezzino” in July 2019. [17] and Wednesday, Feb. 3 2021 in the New York Times thanks to the idea of the “party box”.

Smorgasburg is an open-air food market that originated in Williamsburg, Brooklyn next to the East River. It takes place every Saturday in an empty lot. The name Smorgasburg is a portmanteau of "Smörgåsbord" and "Williamsburg." Dozens of vendors sell their food and wares. It initially was started in 2011, by Jonathan Butler and Eric Demby as an offshoot of Brooklyn Flea. Originally, some businesses were not able to set up at Brooklyn Flea due to limited space, so the founders created a food-centered version of the original market. They chose Brooklyn due to location and affordability of space. The food tends to be small-batch and innovative foods. Smorgasburg grew quickly in popularity and some vendors were able to upgrade to brick-and-mortar locations.

The venue was a favorite Monday-night stop for Broadway actors, who sometimes participated in the club's shows. Like other New York City nightlife establishments, Therapy was ordered to close temporarily in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In July of that year, the venue's owner announced that it was unlikely to reopen, citing financial troubles. Therapy's atmosphere, drink selection, food and entertainment have generally received positive remarks from critics.
