Detlef Hugo Otto Uhlemann (born 24 September 1949) is a German former long-distance runner who competed for West Germany. Born in the Altenessen district of the city of Essen, he represented his country at the 1976 Summer Olympics, being a finalist in the 5000 metres. He was a member of the LG Bonn/Troisdorf athletics club during his career. [1]

The greatest success of his international career came in cross country running. He was a six-time participant at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships and was a bronze medallist at the 1977 edition (held in his native West Germany) – he was the first German to reach the podium and alongside 1980 medallist Hans-Jürgen Orthmann remains one of only two German senior medallists at the competition. [2] He also ranked in the top five at the 1974 and 1976 editions. [3] A global title came when he won the 1974 World Military Cross Country Championships. [4] He was the world military runner-up in 1975. [3]

Uhlemann also represented West Germany on the track, competing at two European Athletics Championships, and represented Europe at the 1977 IAAF World Cup. [3] [5] He was twice a silver medallist in the 10,000 metres at the European Cup, taking the runner-up spot in 1973 and 1977. [6] He was the 10,000 m champion at the 1976 CISM World Military Track and Field Championships. [3] He was a four-time West German champion in the 10,000 m and also won two national titles in cross country. [7]

On the professional circuit, he was the 1977 winner of the Lotto Cross Cup de Hannut, was runner-up at the 1975 Cursa Jean Bouin, and took second place at the 1976 San Silvestre Vallecana. [3]

Her best of 18.084 km for the one hour run set in 1981 was a world record for over seventeen years.

Erik De Beck is a Belgian former long-distance runner who specialised in cross country running. His greatest performance was a gold medal at the 1974 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. He shared in the team title at that event on three occasions: 1973, 1974 and 1977.

George Kiprotich "Kip" Rono is a Kenyan former steeplechase runner. He won a gold medal in the event at the 1979 African Championships in Athletics and was the first African steeplechase winner at the 1979 IAAF World Cup.

Kipsubai Koskei is a Kenyan former long-distance runner. His greatest success was a 10,000 metres gold medal at the African Championships in Athletics in 1985, which he won in a championship record time of 28:11.70 minutes. Hans-Jürgen Orthmann is a German former long-distance runner who competed for West Germany. He made thirteen consecutive appearances at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships from 1975 to 1987. His highest honour was a silver medal in 1980. He was a seven-time national champion, taking three titles in cross country running, two in road running and two in track.

Nagwa Ibrahim Saleh Ali is an Egyptian former racewalker. She is the Egyptian record holder in the 20 kilometres walk with her time of 1:41:08 hours from 2002. She is a three-time African champion and represented Egypt at the IAAF World Race Walking Cup on four occasions.

Britt Holmquist is a Swedish former racewalking athlete. She was twice a competitor at the IAAF World Race Walking Cup and was the bronze medallist in the first ever women's race in 1975. She was part of a Swedish medal sweep alongside Margareta Simu and Siv Gustavsson. While both Simu and Gustavsson returned to the podium at the 1977 edition, Holmquist fell back to fifth behind British opposition.

John Barry Nuttall is a male British former long-distance runner who competed in track and cross country running. He competed for Great Britain at the 1996 Summer Olympics. He also represented his country twice at the World Championships in Athletics and five times at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. He was a silver medallist at the 1994 IAAF World Cup and a bronze medallist at the 1994 Commonwealth Games.

Wei Li is a Chinese former long-distance runner. She was a medallist at the 1994 IAAF World Cup and the 1997 East Asian Games. She represented China at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, the 1997 World Championships in Athletics and the 1997 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. She was twice a Chinese national champion.

Andrea Joan Caron Lynch is a British former track and field sprinter who competed mainly in the 100 metres. A two-time Olympian, the peak of her career was becoming a bronze medallist in the 100 m at the 1974 European Championships and a double silver medallist in the 100 m and 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games. A former British record holder in the 100 m, she has a hand-timed best of 10.9 seconds in 1974 and an auto-timed best of 11.16 secs in 1975. Her 200 metres best is 23.15 secs in 1975.

Sławomir Majusiak was a Polish long-distance runner who competed mainly in track running. His greatest achievement was a 5000 metres bronze medal at the 1990 European Athletics Championships. He also represented Poland at the 1989 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and 1991 World Championships in Athletics.

Vladimir Ponomaryov is a Russian former Soviet middle-distance runner. He represented his country at the 1976 Summer Olympics and was a seven-time Soviet national champion, four times outdoors.

Ari Paunonen is a Finnish male former middle- and long-distance runner who competed over distances from 800 metres up to 10,000 metres. His best international performances at a major event were bronze at the 1977 European Cup and fifth at the 1983 European Athletics Indoor Championships. He was also the 1500 m silver medallist at the Nordic Indoor Athletics Championships in 1986.

David Robert Clarke is a British former distance runner who competed over distances from the 1500 metres to the marathon. He represented Great Britain over 5000 metres at the 1983 World Championships in Athletics and the 1981 Summer Universiade.
