Dhanraj Tamang is a 1978 Indian Bengali language vigilante action film co-written and directed by Pijush Bose [2] [3] based on the story of Charuchandra Chakraborty alias Jorasandha. The film was produced by Ashim Sarkar under the banner of Usha Films. It stars Uttam Kumar, Sandha Roy, Utpal Dutta, Anil Chatterjee, Dilip Roy and Chaya Devi in lead roles. [4] The soundtrack of the film was composed by Shyamal Mitra, with lyrics penned by Gauriprasanna Mazumder. [5] [6] Plotted in Sittong tea estate, Darjeeling, it revolves around Dhanraj Tamang, a tea estate worker who always fights against the predators who try to rape the women instead of job in the estate. All on a sudden, he gets prisoned for being falsely alleged of raping his wife, Phoolmaya. He escapes from the jail to look into the matter and unfortunately discovers his boss to be the mastermind of all the rapes, including of his wife. After taking the revenge, Dhanraj becomes mad and dies in the Ranchi mental asylum.[ citation needed ]

Dhanraj Tamang marks the 8th collaboration between Uttam Kumar and Pijush Bose. Released on the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja, the film was an all-time blockbuster at the box office and after a number of flops, it redefined Uttam Kumar's stardom with a long run consisting of 210 days in theatres. The song 'Ekti Sudhu Naam Dhanraj Tamang', sung by Hemanta Mukherjee, became very popular among the masses, upon its release.[ citation needed ]

Plot

In a tea estate close to Darjeeling, Dhanraj Tamang is a well-liked and trustworthy worker. He is always willing to assist and encourage locals. He defends women from sexual predators but is unable to save his own wife. His tea estate boss allegedly sexually assaults his wife, leading to the sentencing of the man to prison. Dhanraj comes back to exact revenge.

Superstar M.G Ramachandran, initially wanted to remake it in Tamil starring himself in lead, but got shelved. Later K. Raghavendra Rao showed his interest to remake it in both Hindi and Telugu language starring Amitabh Bachchan and NTR in the titular role respectively, but due to rights issues, it also couldn't come to the board.

Amanush(Bengali: অমানুষ ; English: Inhuman) is a 1974 Indian bilingual action masala film made in Bengali and Hindi languages, produced and directed by Shakti Samanta, under his banner Shakti Films. Based on Shaktipada Rajguru's novel 'Naya Basat' which he wrote plotting on Sundarbans, the film stars Uttam Kumar in the titular role, alongside Sharmila Tagore, Utpal Dutt, Anil Chatterjee, Manik Dutta and Asit Sen in supporting roles. Shriman Prithviraj is a 1973 Indian Bengali romantic comedy film starring Ayan Banerjee and Mahua Roy Choudhury, and directed by Tarun Majumdar, featuring teenage love. It has a cult following. This is essentially a comedy with Tom Sawyeresque leanings laced elegantly into the fabric of Bengal of the late 19th or early 20th century. In the subtle backdrop of the Indian freedom movement, it is the story of the transformation of a young boy's innocent but naughty childhood to an appreciation of the Swadeshi movement and the growth of adolescent love for a girl even younger than him. The comic appeal of the film is natural and free-flowing. It includes a number of beautifully rendered traditional Bengali songs and is punctuated by a series of stand-offs faced by the young boy, mostly with unfavourable results for the opposing party. At heart, it is a beautiful pre-pubescent/adolescent love story. It was a huge box-office success when it came out and still retains its popularity.

Gar Nasimpur is a popular Bengali film directed by Ajit Lahiri. Barindranath Das wrote the screenplay and story in this movie. The film was released under the banner of Shadow Productions in 1968 and it's music was directed by Shyamal Mitra. The film stars Uttam Kumar, Biswajit Chatterjee, Madhavi Mukherjee, Ruma Guhathakurta.
