The Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC) is a tertiary level teaching and training government hospital in the Philippines.

On June 18, 1966, the then Speaker Daniel Z. Romualdez Memorial City Hospital was established as a general hospital in Tacloban with service capacity of one hundred beds. [1] On July 22, 1972, the Speaker Daniel Z. Romualdez Memorial City Hospital became the surviving entity when the Leyte Provincial Hospital and the Tacloban City Hospital were merged with it. [2] During this time, its capacity was increased to two hundred fifty beds. [3] It was renamed as Tacloban City Medical Center on November 12, 1986 [4] and again renamed as Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC) on March 24, 1992. [5] In 2009, it was authorized by the national law to expand into a five hundred bed hospital. [6] In 2021, the word "regional" was dropped from its name [7] and its service capacity was further increased to 1500 beds. [8]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Transportation in Tacloban</span>

Transportation in Tacloban is similar to that of other large cities in the Philippines, but with a high degree of private transport. The region around Tacloban is a hub of transportation services and has a high degree of air connectivity and complemented with undeveloped highways and surface streets. There is an airport for domestic, and general aviation; buses; motorcycle services, walking, bicycling, and commercial shipping. The focus of the public transport system is the jeepney service.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Eastern Visayas is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus reached Eastern Visayas on March 23, 2020, when the first case of the disease was confirmed in Northern Samar.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Leyte's 1st congressional district</span>

Leyte's 1st congressional district is one of the five congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Leyte. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1916 and earlier in the Philippine Assembly from 1907 to 1916. The district consists of the provincial capital, Tacloban, and adjacent municipalities of Alangalang, Babatngon, Palo, San Miguel, Santa Fe, Tanauan and Tolosa. The Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) is a tertiary level government hospital in the Philippines with an authorized bed capacity of seven hundred (700). It is located along Q. Abeto Street, Mandurriao, Iloilo City, Iloilo.
