Tom Casperson was an American businessman and politician from the State of Michigan. He formerly served as a Republican member of the Michigan State Senate, representing the 38th district, which includes much of the Upper Peninsula. He previously served in the Michigan State House of Representatives, representing the 108th district.

Judith Kaczmarczyk Nerat was a Democratic politician and member of the Michigan State House of Representatives. Nerat was elected to represent the 108th State House district on November 4, 2008. The 108th district is located in the Upper Peninsula and includes all of Delta, Dickinson, and Menominee counties. Nerat previously ran for the same seat in 2006, losing to then incumbent Representative Tom Casperson.

Rick Outman is a Republican politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. Since 2019, he has been a member of the Michigan Senate, elected from the 33rd Senate district. He was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the 70th district, from 2011 to 2017. He was term limited out in 2017.

Kevin Daley is an American politician in the state of Michigan. A member of the Republican Party, he has been a member of the Michigan Senate since 2019, elected from the 26th district and 31st district. Michael J. Shirkey is an American politician who served as a Republican member of the Michigan State Senate and as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives. He was first elected to the House in 2010 and to the Senate in 2014. His district, the 16th, covered all of Branch, Hillsdale, and Jackson Counties. From 2019 to 2023, Shirkey was the majority leader of the Michigan State Senate.

Todd Anthony Courser is an American lawyer, Tea Party Republican politician, and former member of the Michigan House of Representatives who resigned his seat when it became clear that he would be expelled for misconduct and the misuse of taxpayer resources in an attempt to cover up his extramarital affair with fellow Representative Cindy Gamrat.

Cindy Gamrat is a former Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the 80th district. She was first elected in 2014, after playing a leading role in organizing the Tea Party movement in Michigan. She engaged in an extramarital affair with fellow Representative Todd Courser, and was expelled from the House in September 2015 for using taxpayer resources in an attempt to cover up the affair.

Lee Roberson Chatfield is an American former politician and a Republican former member of the Michigan House of Representatives. He was first elected from the 107th House district in 2015. He was speaker pro tempore from 2017 to 2019, and speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021. In April 2024 he was charged with thirteen felony counts of embezzlement, larceny and conspiracy involving spending private foundation and state money for personal use while he was Speaker of the Michigan House.

Anthony Kern is an American politician and a Republican member of the Arizona Senate, representing District 27 since 2023. He previously represented District 20 in the State House of Representatives from January 5, 2015, to January 11, 2021.

Jim Runestad is an American politician. A Republican, he has been a member of the Michigan State Senate, representing the 23rd district, since 2023. He was previously a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2015 to 2018. In 2020, Runestad was one of 11 Republican state senators in Michigan who supported Donald Trump's effort to overturn the result of the presidential election and remain in power.

Matthew Maddock is an American politician in the Republican Party serving as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives. His district, the 51st, represents areas covering part of Oakland County. In his first term, Maddock was appointed to be the Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, as well as Chairman of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules. A Republican, Maddock was first elected in 2018. Prior to being elected to the 110-member Michigan House of Representatives, he was a businessman in Oakland County.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2022 Michigan gubernatorial election</span>

The 2022 Michigan gubernatorial election took place on November 8, 2022, to elect the governor of Michigan. Incumbent Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer ran for re-election to a second term and faced former political commentator Tudor Dixon in the general election. Whitmer defeated Dixon by a margin of roughly 10.5 percentage points, a wider margin than polls indicated as well as a wider margin than Whitmer's first victory four years prior. Whitmer won independent voters by double-digit margins, which contributed to Dixon's defeat.

Michigan's 38th Senate district is one of 38 districts in the Michigan Senate. The 38th district was created with the adoption of the 1963 Michigan Constitution, as the previous 1908 state constitution only permitted 34 senatorial districts. It has been represented by Republican Ed McBroom since 2019, succeeding fellow Republican Tom Casperson.

After the 2020 presidential election, Rigas denied the election result and took part in the rally that preceded the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
