Edidiong Ofinome Odiong (born 13 March 1997) is a Nigerian-born sprinter from Bahrain. She won the 200 m at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships and qualified in this event for the 2016 Summer Olympics. [1]

Early life and education

Odiong was born in Calabar, Nigeria. [4] She attended Wisdom Based Academics High School. [4]

While at Florida State University Odiong majored in international affairs. [4]

Athletic career

Odiong won the girls’ 400m at the 2013 African Youth Athletics Championships (AYAC) in Warri, Nigeria. [5]

Odioing competed for Nigeria at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships in Oregon, where she placed 6th in the 400m final and placed 5th along with her teammates in the 4x400m. [5]

She competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. [6] [7]

From 2020-2022 she competed for the Florida State Seminoles. [4]

In summer 2023, she won the 100 metres at the Pan Arab Games in Algeria with a time of 11.27 seconds. [8] Later in the year she defended her 200 metre championship at the Asian Games. [9]

The 2013 African Youth Athletics Championships were the first edition of the biennial athletics competition for African athletes aged fifteen to seventeen. She specialises in the 400 metres hurdles and has a personal best of 53.39 seconds – a Bahraini and Asian record. In January 2019, it was reported that Adekoya tested positive for an illegal steroid stanozolol in an out-of-competition test in November 2018 and was provisionally suspended. All of her results achieved after 24 August 2018 were also stripped.

Salwa Eid Naser is a Nigerian-born Bahraini sprinter who specialises in the 400 metres. She was the 2019 World champion with the third fastest time in history of 48.14 seconds, becoming the youngest-ever champion in the event and also the first woman representing an Asian nation to win that event at a World Championships. The mark places her only behind contested results of Marita Koch and Jarmila Kratochvílová. Over the distance, at only 19, Naser was the 2017 World silver medallist. She has also won, as a member of the Bahraini mixed-gender 4x400 m relay team, the 2019 World Championships bronze medal.

The 2010 Arab Junior Athletics Championships was the fourteenth edition of the international athletics competition for under-20 athletes from Arab countries. It took place between 5–8 May at Cairo Military Academy Stadium in Cairo, Egypt. It was the fourth time that the event was held in the Egyptian capital. A total of 44 athletics events were contested, 22 for men and 22 for women.

Eunice Chebichii Chumba is a Kenyan-born Bahraini female long-distance runner. She won silver medals in the 10,000 metres at the 2018 Asian Games and 2015 Asian Athletics Championships.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Hajar Eddou</span> Moroccan sprinter (born 1999)

Hajar Eddou, also spelled Hajar Edaou, Hajer Edhou, or Hajar Eddaou, is a Moroccan sprinter specialising in the 100 metres and 200 metres. She is a six-time Moroccan Athletics Championships winner and championship record-holder in the 100 m and 200 m. She was promoted to the bronze medal in the 100 m at the 2021 Arab Athletics Championships following the doping disqualification of the original winner.
