Elementary School District 159 (ESD 159), also known as Matteson School District 159, is a school district headquartered in Matteson, Illinois near Chicago, United States. [2]

Contents

The district serves portions of Matteson, Richton Park, Frankfort, and Tinley Park. [3] As of 2017 it has 2,100 students. [4]

History

The first school in what would become the district, the Sieden Prairie Schoolhouse, opened in 1869. The district headquarters was located on the former site of the schoolhouse. [4] The district considers 1869 as its date of establishment. [5]

From 2007 to 2016, multiple employees were related to a total of eight people who served on the school board. In 2016 the school district did not have a specific policy that addressed the practice of nepotism. [6]

Mable Alfred served as superintendent. In December 2018, the school board voted to remove Alfred from per position. [7] In May 2019, five members of the school board voted to make Alfred the superintendent again, while one voted against the proposal and with one more not voting. [8]

The Vollmer Road headquarters is on the grounds of the former Sieden Prairie School. [5] The previous headquarters was in the Marya Yates Building on Allemong Drive. [10] [11]

Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 is a school district in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. Created in 1951, the district serves the communities of New Lenox, Frankfort, Mokena, Manhattan, and small portions of Tinley Park, Orland Park and Homer Glen. The three schools comprising the district are Lincoln-Way Central High School, Lincoln-Way East High School, and Lincoln-Way West High School. A fourth high school, Lincoln-Way North High School, was closed at the end of the 2015–2016 school year as part of a deficit reduction plan. Lincoln-Way Central and Lincoln-Way West are located in New Lenox, Lincoln-Way East is located in Frankfort and Lincoln-Way North is in Frankfort Square. District 210 offices are located at Lincoln-Way Central.
