Primary education in the United States refers to the first seven to nine years of formal education in most jurisdictions, often in elementary schools, including middle schools. Preschool programs, which are less formal and usually not mandated by law, are generally not considered part of primary education. The first year of primary education is commonly referred to as kindergarten and begins at or around age 5 or 6. Subsequent years are usually numbered being referred to as first grade, second grade, and so forth. Elementary schools normally continue through sixth grade, which the students normally complete when they are age 11 or 12. Some elementary schools graduate after the 4th or 5th grade and transition students into a middle school.

Worth School District 127 is an elementary school district based in Worth, a southern Chicago suburb located in Cook County, Illinois. District 127 is composed of two elementary schools, one junior high school, and a preschool institution; all schools are located within the village of Worth. Students may begin their careers in the district as preschoolers at Worthridge School. They may alternatively enter the district as kindergarteners in either Worth Elementary School or Worthwoods Elementary School, which serve kindergarteners and students between grades one and five under, respectively, principals Joe Zampillo and Tim Hathhorn. Skokie/Morton Grove School District 69 is an elementary school district based in the northern Cook County village for which the district is named: Skokie, Illinois, United States. The district is composed of two elementary schools and one junior high school; one of the two elementary schools is home to a preschool program, while the other elementary school is the only school in the district not located in the village of Skokie. Students that are submitted to the TOPS Preschool Program are admitted to one of two teachers in Madison Elementary School, an institution that also teaches students in kindergarten or in grades one and two under direction of principal Christopher Basten.

Pickerington Local School District, formerly Violet Township Schools (1905–1939), is a public school district in Ohio. It serves most of the city of Pickerington, Ohio, as well as part of the city of Columbus, Reynoldsburg, Canal Winchester and unincorporated parts of Fairfield and Franklin Counties. In the 1980s and 90s it was the fastest growing school district in Ohio over a five-year period. It is highly rated by Niche. In 2004 the district was rated excellent by the state of Ohio. It is the taxing authority for the Pickerington Public Library as well as for the school district.
