Indonesia and the Netherlands share a special relationship, embedded in their shared history of colonial interactions for centuries. It began during the spice trade as the Netherlands established the Dutch East Indies Company (VOC) trading post in what is now Indonesia, before colonising it as the Dutch East Indies until the mid-20th century. Indonesia was the largest former Dutch colony. In the early 21st century, the Dutch government has committed to boosting its relationship with Indonesia, noting that economic, political, and interpersonal contacts should be further strengthened.
Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi is an Indonesian diplomat who has been serving as the Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Cabinet of Joko Widodo since 2014. She is the first female minister appointed to the post. She was previously the Indonesian Ambassador to the Netherlands from 2012 to 2014, as well as Ambassador to Iceland and Norway from 2005 to 2008.
The Embassy of Indonesia, Oslo is the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the Kingdom of Norway. The embassy is also accredited to Iceland. Diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Norway started in 1951, while diplomatic relations and the embassy's accreditation to Iceland started in 1983.

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Prague is the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the Czech Republic. The embassy was originally Indonesia's diplomatic mission to Czechoslovakia. After the country's split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the embassy became the diplomatic mission for the former. The first Indonesia ambassador to Czechoslovakia was Rudolf Alexander Asmaun in 1957. The current ambassador to the Czech Republic is Kenssy Dwi Ekaningsih who was appointed by President Joko Widodo on 13 February 2019.
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Bogotá is the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Colombia and concurrently accredited to Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados and the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis. Diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Colombia were established on 15 September 1980. Initially, the Indonesian embassy in Brasilia, Brazil was accredited to Colombia. This continued until the Indonesian embassy in Bogotá was inaugurated after the arrival of the first Indonesian ambassador to Colombia, Trenggono, on 26 May 1989. The current ambassador is Tatang Budie Utama Razak who was appointed by President Joko Widodo on 25 October 2021.

The current ambassador, Husin Bagis, was appointed by President Joko Widodo on 25 February 2016.

The embassy is concurrently accredited to the Republic of Djibouti. In addition, the ambassador serves as the Indonesian representative for the African Union. The first Indonesian ambassador to Ethiopia was Suadi Soeromiharjo (1964–1968). The current ambassador, Al Busyra Basnur, was appointed by President Joko Widodo on 7 January 2019.
