Nuevas Ideas is the ruling political party of El Salvador. The party was founded on 25 October 2017 by Nayib Bukele, the then-mayor of San Salvador, and was registered by the Supreme Electoral Court on 21 August 2018. The party's current president is Xavier Zablah Bukele, a cousin of Bukele who has served since March 2020.

The 2020 Salvadoran political crisis, commonly referred to in El Salvador as the numeronym 9F or El Bukelazo, was an incident in El Salvador on 9 February 2020. During the political crisis, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele sent 40 soldiers of the Salvadoran Army into the Legislative Assembly building in an effort to coerce politicians to approve a loan request of 109 million dollars from the United States for Bukele's security plan for the country.

The 2021 Salvadoran political crisis occurred on 1 May 2021 when the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador voted to remove several judges from the Supreme Court and remove the Attorney General of El Salvador, both of which had been vocal opponents to the presidency of Nayib Bukele. The event has been referred to as a self-coup by the opposition and by news media outlets due to the action itself but also because of the 2020 Salvadoran political crisis in the year prior, where Bukele ordered soldiers into the Legislative Assembly, which has also been characterized as a self-coup.

Sandra Yanira Martínez Tobar is a Salvadoran pioneer in the field of meteorology, being the first woman to work in the National Meteorological Service later known as the Environmental Observatory of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, from where she retired in 2019. During the legislative and municipal elections on February 28, 2021, she was elected deputy of the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador for La Libertad Department during the period from May 1, 2021 to May 1, 2024.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2024 Salvadoran general election</span>

General elections were held in El Salvador in February and March 2024. In the first round on 4 February, voters elected the president, vice president, and all 60 deputies of the Legislative Assembly. In the second round on 3 March, voters elected mayors and municipal councils for all 44 of the country's municipalities and all 20 of El Salvador's deputies to the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN).

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Claudia Ortiz (El Salvador)</span> Salvadoran politician

Claudia Mercedes Ortiz Menjívar is a Salvadoran politician who currently serves as a deputy of the Legislative Assembly. She is the only deputy of the political party Vamos in the legislature, and was elected in the 2021 legislative election from the department of San Salvador. Ortiz is considered a leading opposition figure to the presidency of Nayib Bukele.

Guillermo Antonio Gallegos Navarrete is a Salvadoran lawyer and former politician of the Grand Alliance for National Unity (GANA). He served as a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador from 2000 to 2024 and as the president of the Legislative Assembly from 2016 to 2018.

Rodolfo Antonio Delgado Montes is a Salvadoran lawyer who currently serves as the attorney general of El Salvador. He was appointed as attorney general by the Legislative Assembly in May 2021 after his predecessor, Raúl Melara, was removed by the Nuevas Ideas-led legislature. Prior to his appointment as attorney general, he worked for the Office of the Attorney General from 1995 to 2017 in various roles.

Yusef Alí Bukele Ortez is a Salvadoran businessman, politician, and economist. He is a younger brother of and advisor to Nayib Bukele, the current president of El Salvador. Bukele has served as one of Nayib's economic advisors and played a role in the adoption of bitcoin as legal tender in El Salvador.

Claudia Juana Rodríguez de Guevara is a Salvadoran accountant who is a former presidential designate and President of El Salvador from 1 December 2023 to 1 June 2024. She assumed presidential powers and duties after President Nayib Bukele was granted a leave of absence by the Legislative Assembly to focus on his 2024 re-election campaign, which some constitutional lawyers have argued violates the country's constitution.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Alejandro Muyshondt</span> Salvadoran politician (1977–2024)

Jorge Alejandro Muyshondt Álvarez was a Salvadoran politician who served as a national security advisor to Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele from 2019 to 2023. Muyshondt previously served as Bukele's security advisor from 2017 to 2019 while Bukele was mayor of San Salvador.

Saúl Enrique Mancía is a Salvadoran politician and communications specialist who has served as a deputy of the Legislative Assembly from the department of Chalatenango since 2021. He serves as a member of the agriculture commission and the public works, transportation, and housing commission. Mancía is a member of Nuevas Ideas.

Reinaldo Alcides Carballo Carballo is a Salvadoran politician, businessman, and electrical engineer. He has served as a deputy of the Legislative Assembly since 2018. As a deputy of the Legislative Assembly, he is serving as the legislature's third secretary; from 2021 to 2024, he served as its fourth secretary. Before becoming a politician, Carballo established several companies and education institutes.
