Espeland is a village in the borough of Arna in Bergen, Norway. [1]

Espeland is located north of Lake Haukeland (Norwegian : Haukelandsvatnet) and Mount Livarden. [2] [3] The village of Indre Arna lies about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to the north. As of January 1, 2008, the population of the Espeland urban area is 1,937. The urban area covers an area of 2.14 square kilometres, and has a population density of 905 per square kilometre. [4] Espeland was the site of the Espeland concentration camp (Espeland fangeleir) built under the direction of German occupation forces between 1942 and 1943. [5]

Espeland concentration camp was established at the village of Espeland in the borough of Arna in Bergen, Norway by the Nazi authorities of occupied Norway in the summer of 1943.

Ulven concentration camp

Ulven concentration camp was a concentration camp in Norway that was located in what was Os Municipality in Hordaland county. It was located just outside the village of Osøyro, 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of the city of Bergen. It was established in June 1940 during the German occupation of Norway, and it was the first prison camp in Norway. It was designated a Polizeihäftlingslager, under the administration of the Nazi "security police".

Osøyro Village in Western Norway, Norway

Osøyro is the administrative centre of Os municipality in Hordaland county, Norway. The village lies on the southwestern part of the Bergen Peninsula, along the western shore of the Fusafjorden, about 25 kilometres (16 mi) south of the city centre of Bergen. The European route E39 highway runs through the village on its way to Bergen. There is a car ferry from the east side of Osøyro to the village of Fusa, across the Fusafjorden. Os Church is located in the village.

While Indre Arna is relatively far from most of the city by road, an 8-minute train journey through Ulriken connects Indre Arna to the city centre. On January 1, 2008, the Indre Arna urban settlement, as defined by Statistics Norway, had a population of 6198. The urban settlement covered a land area of 3.80 square kilometres, and had a population density of 1631 per square kilometre. Arna Church is located in the village.

Bergen Peninsula

The Bergen Peninsula is a peninsula in Vestland county, Norway. The city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city, is located on the peninsula. The peninsula extends out from the mainland and it is surrounded by the following fjords: Samnangerfjorden, Bjørnafjorden, Fusafjorden, Raunefjorden, Byfjorden, Salhusfjorden, Sørfjorden. The peninsula is connected to the rest of mainland Norway by a narrow, 6.5-kilometre (4.0 mi) wide strip of land between the villages of Trengereid and Årland. Arna is a former municipality in the old Hordaland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1964 until 1972. It encompassed the northeastern part of the Bergen Peninsula, along the Sørfjorden, bordering the city of Bergen across the mountains to the west. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Indre Arna. The municipality stretched from the village of Ytre Arna to Trengereid along the coast and then inland about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) to the Espeland area. Today, the area of the former municipality makes up the borough of Arna in the city of Bergen.
