Nordnes is a peninsula and neighbourhood in the city centre of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. [1]
Vågen, Byfjorden, and Puddefjorden surround the peninsula. The Bergen Aquarium is located at the tip of the peninsula. The Norwegian Institute of Marine Research and Fredriksberg Fortress are also located on Nordnes. The parish church, Nykirken i Bergen, is located in this neighborhood. [2]
The neighbourhood of Nordnes includes approximately 50% of the peninsula. The neighbourhoods Strandsiden and Verftet, as well as parts of Nøstet, are also located on Nordnes.
Recreation areas include Nordnes Park and the Ballast Pier (Ballastbryggen). [3] [4]
One of the main recreation activities is visiting Nordnes sjøbad. This is an outdoor swimming facility with a heated pool and possibility to swim in the fjord. Nordnes sjøbad is open from 18 May to 1 September. [5]
Nordnes was also a place of execution in the 14th century, including Audun Hugleiksson and False Margaret.
Bergen, historically Bjørgvin, is a city and municipality in Vestland county on the west coast of Norway. As of 2022, its population was roughly 289,330. Bergen is the second-largest city in Norway after the national capital Oslo. The municipality covers 465 square kilometres (180 sq mi) and is located on the peninsula of Bergenshalvøyen. The city centre and northern neighbourhoods are on Byfjorden, 'the city fjord'. The city is surrounded by mountains, causing Bergen to be called the "city of seven mountains". The 25.41-square-kilometre (6,280-acre) borough has a population (2014) of 40,606. This gives Bergenhus a population density of 1,598 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,140/sq mi).

Sverresborg or Sverre Sigurdsson's castle was a fort and residence built in the medieval city of Nidaros by King Sverre Sigurdsson. The fortification was built in support of Sverre Sigurdsson's struggle against his rival King Magnus Erlingsson to claim the throne of Norway. The site now forms part of the Sverresborg Trøndelag Folk Museum, an open-air museum for the region of Trøndelag.
The Dutch steam trawler Voorbode was a fishing vessel, until it was confiscated by the Germans during World War II and used for military transport. In April 1944, it was on its way from Oslo to Kirkenes when it had mechanical problems, forcing it to seek repairs in Bergen, Norway. The ship was allowed to enter Bergen harbour loaded with 124,000 kg (273,000 lb) of explosives, even though it did not satisfy security regulations and should not have been allowed into a major city with this cargo.

Currently it is part of the borough of Årstad, but before 2000 it was part of a borough called "Løvstakken" which covered the eastern and western sides of the mountain Løvstakken, consisting of Fyllingsdalen in the west and Løvstakksiden in the east.

Landås is a neighbourhood in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. Landås is located by the western side of the Ulriken mountain massif, from southeast of Haukeland University Hospital to the neighborhood of Nattland almost 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) further south. It was the last part of the historic Årstad municipality to be urbanised, with the development of Landås taking place mainly after World War II. The Faculty of Education of Bergen University College is located in Landås. The Grieg Academy is the original name of the music department at this campus of Bergen University College, however the music school with a very similar name - "Grieg Academy-Institute" - is affiliated with the University of Bergen and located in downtown Bergen. The unique Landås Church is located in this neighborhood.
Puddefjorden, often anglicized as Pudde Fjord, is an inlet or fjord in the central part of the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. An arm off of the main Byfjorden, the Puddefjorden is 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) long and stretches from the tip of the Nordnes peninsula to the Solheimsviken bay at the entrance to the Store Lungegårdsvannet bay. The fjord is 1.2 kilometres (0.75 mi) at its widest, between Nordnes and the inner part of the borough of Laksevåg. The innermost part of the fjord, known as Damsgårdssundet, is much narrower, scarcely 100 metres (330 ft) wide at its narrowest. The fjord is located next to some of Bergen's most important industrial areas, and has played a significant part in the city's development and industrialisation.
Strandgaten is a street in the city centre of Bergen, Norway, west of the bay of Vågen. It starts at Torgallmenningen and follows the eastern shore of the Nordnes peninsula to Tidemands gate, where it becomes Nordnesgaten. The easternmost quarter of Strandgaten is a regular two-way street, while it is an eastbound one-way street between Tollbodallmenningen and Holbergsallmenningen, and between Østre Murallmenningen and Torgallmenningen. Between Holbergsallmenningen and Østre Murallmenningen the street is pedestrianised. In total, Strandgaten is approximately 1.2 km long.
Nykirken is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bergen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the Nordnes area of the city of Bergen. It is one of the churches for the Bergen Cathedral parish which is part of the Bergen domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin.

Vågen is a bay in the centre of the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. It is the central harbour of the city centre, and is the center of the historical core of the city. The city of Bergen originated on the east shore of the bay, and from there it expanded to the southern and western shores over a few centuries. Today, Bergen is the second largest city in the nation.
Christinegård is a manor house located in the neighborhood of Sandviken in Bergen, Norway. The villa has a dominant position in the hillside overlooking Byfjorden.
Georgernes Verft is an area located on the peninsula of Nordnes in Bergen, Norway. It was named after the shipyard that used to operate in the area. Over time the surrounding area was populated by shipyard workers and is still known as Verftet. Today a large residential complex dominates the area.
