Bergen, historically Bjørgvin, is a city and municipality in Vestland county on the west coast of Norway. At the end of 2019, the municipality's population was 283,929. Bergen is the second-largest city in Norway. The municipality covers 465 square kilometres (180 sq mi) and is on the peninsula of Bergenshalvøyen. The city centre and northern neighbourhoods are on Byfjorden, 'the city fjord', and the city is surrounded by mountains; Bergen is known as the 'city of seven mountains'. Many of the extra-municipal suburbs are on islands. Bergen is the administrative centre of Vestland county. The city consists of eight boroughs: Arna, Bergenhus, Fana, Fyllingsdalen, Laksevåg, Ytrebygda, Årstad, and Åsane.
Bergenhus is a borough of the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. This borough encompasses the city centre and is the most urbanized area of the whole city. The 25.41-square-kilometre (6,280-acre) borough has a population (2014) of 40,606. This gives Bergenhus a population density of 1,598 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,140/sq mi).
Haakonsvern is the main base of the Royal Norwegian Navy and the largest naval base in the Nordic area. The base is located at Mathopen within Bergen municipality, about 15 km south-west of the city centre. Around 5,400 people work at the base as conscripts, officers or civilian staff.
Western Norway University of Applied Sciences or HVL is a Norwegian public institution of higher education, established in January 2017 through the merging of formerly independent colleges across five campuses: Bergen, Førde, Haugesund, Sogndal and Stord. Its oldest programs - teacher education in Stord - can be traced to 1839. The total number of students at HVL is about 16000, and there are 1800 academic and administrative staff. Its main campus is in the Kronstad neighborhood of Bergen, Norway.

Møhlenpris is a neighbourhood in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. It is next to the Puddefjorden in the borough of Bergenhus. The neighbourhood is named after Jørgen Thor Møhlen, who was a shipowner, slave trader, innovator and businessman who established some industry at Møhlenpris in the late 17th century. Most of the buildings date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
St. John's Church is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bergen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the Sydnes area of the city of Bergen. It is one of the five churches for the Bergen Cathedral parish which is part of the Bergen domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The red brick church was built in a cruciform design between 1891 and 1894 in the Gothic Revival style. The architect was Herman Backer. The church seats about 1250 people, making it the largest church in Bergen. It was consecrated on 15 March 1894.
Kalfaret is a neighborhood in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The neighborhood is located in the borough of Bergenhus, just north of the Store Lungegårdsvannet bay, east of the city centre. The area is an affluent neighborhood, although it is close to the main train line that runs into Bergen Station.
The Bergen Peninsula is a peninsula in Vestland county, Norway. The city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city, is located on the peninsula. The peninsula extends out from the mainland and it is surrounded by the following fjords: Samnangerfjorden, Bjørnafjorden, Fusafjorden, Raunefjorden, Byfjorden, Salhusfjorden, Sørfjorden. The peninsula is connected to the rest of mainland Norway by a narrow, 6.5-kilometre (4.0 mi) wide strip of land between the villages of Trengereid and Årland. The 465-square-kilometre (180 sq mi) municipality of Bergen, about 140-square-kilometre (54 sq mi) of the municipality of Bjørnafjorden, and about 50 square kilometres (19 sq mi) of the municipality of Samnanger are all located on the peninsula. The highest point is the 987-metre (3,238 ft) tall mountain Gullfjellet.
Landås is a neighbourhood in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. Landås is located by the western side of the Ulriken mountain massif, from southeast of Haukeland University Hospital to the neighborhood of Nattland almost 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) further south. It was the last part of the historic Årstad municipality to be urbanised, with the development of Landås taking place mainly after World War II. The Faculty of Education of Bergen University College is located in Landås. The Grieg Academy is the original name of the music department at this campus of Bergen University College, however the music school with a very similar name - "Grieg Academy-Institute" - is affiliated with the University of Bergen and located in downtown Bergen. The unique Landås Church is located in this neighborhood.
Paradis is a neighborhood in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. It is located between the neighborhoods of Storetveit and Hop in the borough of Fana, on the eastern shore of the lake Nordåsvannet. The name, which literally means "paradise" in Norwegian, is shared with several other locations in Norway and denotes a location with positive qualities not present in the surrounding areas. Paradis is dominated by single-family detached homes, and is the location of some of the most expensive homes in the city.
Minde is a neighbourhood in the southwestern part of Årstad borough in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. It is located south of the neighborhoods of Solheim and Kronstad, west of Landås, and north of Fjøsanger and Storetveit. Parts of Minde were in Fana municipality before the merger of 1972. It is home to the Bergen offices of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, the dairy company Tine, and the headquarters of the shipping company Odfjell. The area is served by one elementary school, Minde skole. An upper secondary school, Kristianborg videregående skole, was formerly located here, operated jointly by three free churches. As it failed to attain a body of students large enough for the operation of the school to be economically viable, it closed after the end of the school year of 2007/2008. Fridalen Church is located in the neighborhood too.
Nattland is a neighbourhood in Årstad and Fana boroughs in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. It is located south of Landås and northeast of Paradis, although, like every neighbourhood outside Bergenhus borough, it has no clearly defined borders. It includes the residential areas that are located west and east of Nattlandsveien and Birkelundsbakken, and atop Nattlandsfjellet, a hill that is part of the Ulriken mountain massif; its summit is at 245 metres (804 ft) above sea level. The basic statistical units of Nattlandsfjellet, Øvre Nattland, and Nedre Nattland had a combined population of 3121 as of 1 January 2009. Nattland is the location of Nattland Studentboliger, a major student housing complex for students with children.
Flaktveit is a neighborhood in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The neighborhood is located in the borough of Åsane in the northern part of the city. The European route E16/European route E39 highway runs around three sides of the neighborhood, providing easy access to the city centre. The area was a farm until the late-1960s when development began and it is now a large residential area.
Eidsvåg is a neighborhood in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The village area lies in the borough of Åsane in the northern part of the city. It is located north of Ytre Sandviken, northwest of Jordal, southwest of Ervik and south of Eidsvågen, an arm of Byfjorden. Eidsvåg was the administrative center of the former municipality of Åsane, until 1972 when Åsane was merged into the city of Bergen.

Kjøkkelvik is a mostly residential neighborhood of the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The neighborhood is located on the west side of the large mountain Lyderhorn in the borough of Laksevåg, along the coast of the Byfjorden. The Norwegian Diver School is located at Kjøkkelvik. The local multi-sports team is Kjøkkelvik IL. The southern base of the Askøy Bridge is located at Kjøkkelvik.
