Etna is a ghost town that was located near the site of present-day Bullard in northwestern Cherokee County, Texas, United States.

History

Etna was first settled by immigrants from the Old South around the time of the Civil War. A local post office was established in 1867 and by the early 1880s the town possessed a dry good store, a district school, a church, a gristmill, a blacksmith, and several general stores. The settlement began to decline by the mid-1880s after the Kansas and Gulf Short Line Railroad bypassed Etna. Most of the residents and businesses move to Bullard and the post office closed in 1883. By 1900, Etna was a ghost town. [1]

Seven Rivers, New Mexico was formerly a ghost town, located between Carlsbad and Artesia, New Mexico. The town itself was first settled in the mid-1860s, and for a time thrived as a trading post. Its name derives from seven creeks that flowed through it, into the Pecos River. The Seven Rivers Warriors, a gang that operated on the Murphy-Dolan side of the Lincoln County War, used the town as its refuge. Both the Jessie Evans Gang and the John Kinney Gang also frequented the town during that time. The town grown in the 1880s with the addition of a schoolhouse, hotel, post office and saloons. The town eventually declined until only the cemetery remained until 1988, when the Brantley Dam was constructed and the cemetery was moved to Artesia.

Kosoma is a ghost town and former railroad station in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma, United States. It is located just off Oklahoma State Highway 2, approximately 10 miles (16 km) north of Antlers.

Alexander is an unincorporated community located in southern Erath County in Central Texas, United States. Alexander is located in the southern part of the county, along Texas State Highway 6 and Fm-914. The town was originally called: "Harper's Mill" when the Post Office was approved for operation around the 1870s. The name was changed in the 1880s, when the Texas Central line, part of the historic Katy Railroad, was built from east to west through the townsite on its way from the Waco area to Stamford, with a branch to Cross Plains from the line at De Leon. In 1907, the Stephenville North and South Texas Railway, part of the Cotton Belt Route, was constructed from north to south and intersected with the Katy's line in Alexander. This made the town an important community for business in the area. The Cotton Belt Route ran from Stephenville through to nearby Carlton. On October 17, 1934, the Cotton Belt Route was abandoned from Stephenville to Hamilton. The Katy Railroad remained through Alexander until its abandonment in the late 1960s. The Alexander post office closed in 1970 and the population remained at a steady 40 from the 1970s through 2000.

Negley is an unincorporated community in Red River County, Texas, United States, approximately ten miles north of Clarksville. Located on Farm-to-Market Road 2118, Negley had a population of 136 in 2000.

Royston is a ghost town in northeastern Fisher County, Texas, United States, 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Roby. At its peak in the 1890s, the community had a population of 150 and many businesses; by the 1990s, its population was scattered and it had only retained its church and cemetery.

Leon is a ghost town in northern San Diego County, California. A former gold mining town from the 1880s, it was named for the Leon Mine that lay on a hill to the northwest of the town. Leon became part of southwestern Riverside County in 1893. Leon had its own post office from May 4, 1888, until July 31, 1911, when its post office was moved to Perris, California.

Rexville or Reckville was an unincorporated area in Austin County, in the U.S. state of Texas. The former location of the community, now a ghost town, is in a rural area between Sealy in Austin County and Eagle Lake in Colorado County. Wingate is a ghost town in Butler County, Kansas, United States. No buildings remain at this former community site.

Albuquerque was a settlement established in 1857 by Samuel McCracken and Henry Hastings in what they thought was Wilson County. Its population grew, and following the Civil War, the town boasted a mercantile store, saloon, blacksmith shop, cotton gin, and an elementary school. Its U.S. post office opened in 1870. Albuquerque, which was actually found to be in Gonzales County, is today a ghost town.
