Futsal is a football-based game played on a hardcourt like a basketball court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to five-a-side football and indoor football.
The World Police Indoor Soccer Tournament (WPIST) is an international futsal tournament for police officers since 1982. This contest takes place every year in Eibergen, Groenlo and Zieuwent in the Netherlands. Those cities are near the border with Germany. In the early 1980s the Eibergen Police department took the initiative to have a tournament with their German colleagues, to improve their cooperation. The tournament grew to be a European, and later a worldwide event. In this moment it is the greatest police indoor soccer tournament in the world.
The CONMEBOL Copa América de Futsal is the main national futsal competition of the CONMEBOL nations organized by the FIFA. It was first held in 1964 and was organized by Asociación Mundial de Futsal (AMF) as "Sudamericano". The tournament was also a qualifier for the AMF Futsal World Cup. The AMF organised the championship until 1989.
The CONCACAF Futsal Championship is the main national futsal competition of the CONCACAF nations. It was first held in 1996, and it is held every four years.
The Spain national futsal team represents Spain in international futsal competitions and is controlled by the Royal Spanish Football Federation. It is one of the strongest teams in the World, seven times champions in the UEFA Futsal Championship, and the two times consecutive champions of the FIFA Futsal World Cup.
The Italy national futsal team represents Italy in international futsal competitions such as the FIFA Futsal World Cup and the European Championships and is controlled by the Italian Football Federation. It is one of the strongest teams in Europe, champions in the 2003 UEFA Futsal Championship and UEFA Futsal Euro 2014. Italy has also come in second place at the 2004 FIFA Futsal World Cup, as well as third place in the 2008 and 2012 editions.
The Turkey national futsal team represents Turkey in international futsal competitions such as the FIFA Futsal World Cup and the European Championships and is controlled by the Turkish Football Federation, which founded the national team in 2006.
The Sudamericano de Futsal Sub-20, branded as CONMEBOL Sub20 Futsal, is the U-20 version of Copa América de Futsal.
The Copa América Femenina de Futsal, also known as the Sudamericano de Futsal Femenino, is the women's version of Copa América de Futsal.
