European Universities Karate Championships were first organised in 2003 and have been organised every two years since.
The European Universities Karate Championships are coordinated by the European University Sports Association along with the 18 other sports on the program of the European universities championships.

Kickboxing is a group of stand-up combat sports and a form of boxing based on kicking and punching. The combat takes place in a boxing ring, normally with boxing gloves, mouthguards, shorts, and bare feet to favor the use of kicks. Kickboxing is practiced for self-defense, general fitness, or for competition. Some styles of kickboxing include: Japanese kickboxing, Savate, Sanda and Muay Thai.
The Karate Union of Great Britain, or KUGB, is an association of Shotokan Karate clubs and Karateka operating across Great Britain, with some oversea affiliations. The 1960s saw a growth in the popularity of Karate, and the KUGB was founded in 1966 to be a democratic, not-for-profit organisation, and was the first single style organisation within the UK. Many other British Shotokan Karate organisations have since formed after splitting from the KUGB. The KUGB is currently affiliated to the European Shotokan Karate Association (ESKA) and the World Shotokan Karate Association (WSKA).
The World Karate Federation (WKF) is the largest international governing body of sport karate with 198 member countries. It was formed in 1990, is the only karate organization recognised by the International Olympic Committee and has more than ten million members. The WKF organizes the Junior and Senior Karate World Championships, which are each held every other year. The President of the WKF is Antonio Espinos, and the headquarters are located in Madrid, Spain. All the styles are officially recognised by the WKF.
Topsportcentrum Rotterdam is an indoor arena located in Rotterdam next to the Feijenoord Stadion. The arena opened in 2000 and has a capacity of 2,500 seats. It holds many sports events in various sports and levels, such as international World and European Championships and Dutch National Championships.
Antonio José Díaz Fernández is a Venezuelan karateka. He is best known for winning gold medals in kata at the World Championships in Serbia (2010) and France (2012), winning of the World Games in Cali, Colombia (2013), and Duisburg, Germany (2015), and a silver medal in the World Championships in Japan 2008. He won bronze medals at the WKF World Championships in karate in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2014, and 2016 in the men's individual kata. He has also won 23 Pan American Karate Federation Senior Championships Medals 23 times to date.
Rafael Mahir Aghayev is an Azerbaijani karateka. He won the silver medal in the men's kumite 75 kg division at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He is a five-time World Champion, and eleven-time European Champion in his discipline.
The European Karate Federation (EKF) is the governing body of competitive karate in more than 50 countries across Europe. The EKF's stated goal is to promote, organize, regulate, and popularize the sport of karate. It is one of the five continental federations recognized by the World Karate Federation. Since 1966, it has organized the European Karate Championships. Additionally, it now organizes Junior, Cadet, and Under-21 Championships(European Juniors Karate Championships).
Gülderen Çelik is a Turkish karateka competing in the kumite –53 kg division. The 1.80 m (5.9 ft) tall athlete is member of the Sarıyer Belediyespor in Istanbul. Her trainer is Turan Yılmaz.
Yıldız Aras is a Turkish karateka competing in the kumite +60 kg and open divisions. Aras is member of the Kocaeli Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kağıt Spor Kulübü Karate team. As of May 2009, she is world's best in women's kumite open division.

European University Sports Association (EUSA) is an umbrella non-governmental (NGO) non-profit organisation, working in the field of university sport in Europe.
European Universities Championships (EUC) are university sports competitions governed by the European University Sports Association (EUSA). There are currently 23 sports in which the championships are organised. Participants in these events are European university teams and individuals.
European Universities Bridge Championships were the first organised in 2009 and have been organised on a bi-annual basis since.
Steven Da Costa, sometimes written as Steven Dacosta is a French karateka. He won the gold medal in the men's 67 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. He is also a two-time gold medalist in the men's 67 kg event at the World Karate Championships and a two-time gold medalist in this event at the European Karate Championships.
The World University Karate Championships is a competition sponsored by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and have been held every two years since 1998 each time in a different host city.
Alizée Agier is a French karateka. She won the gold medal in the women's kumite 68 kg event at the 2014 World Karate Championships held in Bremen, Germany. She also won the gold medal in this event at the 2019 European Karate Championships held in Guadalajara, Spain.
Alexandra Feracci is a French karateka. She won one of the bronze medal in the women's individual kata event at the 2019 European Karate Championships held in Guadalajara, Spain.
Gatta gusthi is a form of submission wrestling practised in Kerala, India. It is competed inside an open ring on the ground, known as godha, usually set on a beach, and wrestlers are called phayalvans. The sport consists of around 100 techniques. Gatta gusthi was popular in the state until the arrival of freestyle wrestling and karate in late 1960s. Its freestyle form is known simply as gusthi.
The Karate Federation of Armenia, also known as the Armenian National Karate Federation, is the regulating body of karate in Armenia, governed by the Armenian Olympic Committee. The headquarters of the federation is located in Yerevan.
