European Universities Judo Championships were the first organised in 1961. The 2nd edition was planned to be hosted in August 1962 in Huizingen (Belgium). [1] [2] In 1964 the championships were held in Delft (Holland). [3] [4] They were not repeated until 2011 (Sarajevo), 2013 (Coimbra) and 2015 (Paris). They are reinvented as part of European Universities Games.
The European Universities Judo Championships are currently coordinated by the European University Sports Association along with the 18 other sports on the program of the European universities championships.

Durham University Boat Club (DUBC) is the rowing club of Durham University. In recent years, DUBC has cemented itself as one of the strongest university boat clubs in Great Britain. Under the leadership of former British Olympian Wade Hall-Craggs, DUBC notably won the BUCS Victor Ludorum for ten consecutive years (2004-2013), and has produced a number of athletes that have competed internationally at European and World Championship level.
The San Jose State Spartans are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent San José State University. SJSU sports teams compete in the Mountain West Conference at the NCAA Division I level, with football competing in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).
University of Nottingham Boat Club (UoNBC) is the rowing club of the University of Nottingham based in the UK on the River Trent. Founded in 1892, the club has over 120 current active members, equally split between men’s, women’s and novice squads. The 18th Maccabiah Games, were held in July 2009. According to the organizing committee these were the largest games held yet. These Games were the world's fifth-largest sporting event, behind the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, World Police and Fire Games, and Universiade. American swimmer Jason Lezak was given the honor of lighting the Maccabiah torch at the Opening Ceremony.

Ashley McKenzie is an England-born Jamaican judoka competing at the men's 60 kg division. He was a member of the Great Britain Olympic Judo Team at London 2012 but was defeated in the second round by Hiroaki Hiraoka of Japan. He also appeared in, and made it to the final of Celebrity Big Brother 10 in September 2012. In August 2018, he appeared on the first series of Celebs on the Farm. In January 2020, he appeared on Celebrity Ex on the Beach.
Yarden Gerbi is an Israeli former judoka world champion. She won an Olympic bronze medal competing for Israel at the 2016 Summer Olympics, in women's 63 kg judo.
The European Universities Games (EUG) is an international multi-sport event, organized every two years for university athletes by the European University Sports Association (EUSA). The first edition was held in 2012 in Cordoba, Spain. On April 9, 2016 the EUSA General Assembly in Wrocław, Poland announced Belgrade, Serbia to host the 2020 Edition.
The 2015 World Judo Championships were held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from 24–30 August 2015. The competition was held at the Alau Ice Palace.
Sagi Aharon Muki is an Israeli half-middleweight judoka. Muki is the 2019 World Champion. He also won the 2015 and 2018 European championships.
The 2020 European University Games would have been the 5th biannual European Universities Games (EUG). It was scheduled to be held in Belgrade, Serbia from 12 July to 26 July. However, this event was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic on 27 March 2020. The new dates proposed for the competition were from 14 July to 27 July 2021. On 5 May 2021 EUSA announced the games not being held. The event was planned involve 21 different sporting disciplines in the sports programme. It would have been organised by the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and University Sports Federation of Serbia with the special cooperation alongside University of Belgrade.
The Israel national judo team consists of the men's team coached by Olympic medalist Oren Smadja and the women's team coached by Shany Hershko(he). It is assambled by the Israel Judo Association.
