James O'Kelly was an American clergyman during the Second Great Awakening and an important figure in the early history of Methodism in America. He was also known for his outspoken views on abolitionism, penning the strong antislavery work, Essay on Negro Slavery. Appointed as a Methodist circuit rider in 1777, he organized preaching circuits on the frontier in central and southeastern North Carolina during the American Revolutionary War. He continued his affiliation with the Methodist Episcopal Church from its formal organization in 1784 at the Christmas Conference, when he was ordained an elder. Well regarded as a preacher, he successfully supervised pastors in several regions of Virginia and North Carolina.

All Saints Chapel formerly known as the Free Church of the Good Shepherd is a historic Episcopal chapel in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. It is the former home of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. The congregation that housed the chapel branched off of Christ Episcopal Church making the chapel the second oldest Episcopal structure in Raleigh. The chapel was sold to a private owner in 2006 and is currently used for weddings and other gatherings. The chapel's 2006 move was featured in the News & Observer.

The church was built in 1920, and is a Neoclassical Revival style church building with an Akron Plan interior. The building features two main temple facades and a dome. A three-story educational building was constructed in 1953.
Christ Episcopal Church and Parish House is a historic Episcopal church located at 320 Pollock Street in New Bern, Craven County, North Carolina. It was built in 1871, incorporating the brick shell of the previous church built in 1824. It is a brick church building in a restrained Gothic Revival style. It features a three-stage entrance tower, with a pyramidal roof and octagonal spire. Beneath the tower is a Stick Style entrance porch added in 1884. The parish house was built between 1904 and 1908, and is a two-story, three bay by five bay, rectangular red brick building with a steep slate gable roof.

Salem Union Church and Cemetery, also known as Salem Lutheran Church and Salem United Church of Christ, is a historic United Church of Christ church and cemetery located near Maiden, Lincoln County, North Carolina. The church was built in 1849 as a simple rectangular brick building, and enlarged and remodeled in the Late Gothic Revival style in 1914–1915. With the remodeling, a two-stage corner tower was added and the window and door openings converted to lancet-arch openings. A two-story Sunday School addition was built in 1936-1937 and in 1989 a Fellowship Hall was built to form an "H"-shaped church building. Also on the property is a contributing well shed and cemetery with burials dating to 1792.

It was built in 1913, and is a one-story, brick-veneered, Romanesque Revival building with a cross-gable facade. The front facade features three arched stained-glass windows and a two-story corner bell tower. Also on the property is a contributing church cemetery.

Commerce Street in Oak City, Martin County, North Carolina. It was built in 1921, and is a one-story, frame, weatherboarded, Gothic Revival style building. It features five lancet-arched stained-glass windows, a two-story bell tower with a broached hexagonal roof, and a hip-roofed porch.
Christ Episcopal Church is a historic Episcopal church located at 412 Summit Avenue in Walnut Cove, Stokes County, North Carolina. It was built in 1886–1887, and is a one-story, Gothic Revival style board-and-batten frame building. It was moved to its present located in 1909. It features lancet-arched windows and a two-stage entrance tower and belfry. An addition was built in 1943.

It was built in 1856, and is a one-story, stuccoed, temple form Greek Revival architecture style church. It features an in antis portico with Tuscan order columns and low pitched roof with a painted wooden cupola. In 1953, the building was sold to the Christian Science Society.

It was built about 1835, and is a one-story, meeting house style clapboard structure with a hipped roof. The church was renovated in 1976. Included within the acreage is a cemetery where many of Allendale's oldest families are buried.

Main St. in Lincolnton, Lincoln County, North Carolina. It was designed by Henry E. Bonitz and built in 1913. It is a rectangular Late Gothic Revival style red-orange brick church with a four-stage corner tower. It features cast cement detailing, lancet arched windows, and buttresses with cement caps.
The Rafael Guastavino Sr. Estate, also known as Rhododendron, is a historic estate and a national historic district located near Black Mountain, Buncombe County, North Carolina. The district encompasses three contributing sites and three contributing structures associated with the former estate of the noted Spanish-born architectural engineer Rafael Guastavino. Although the house was razed in the late 1940s, the property includes above-ground ruins and landscaping, the ruins of Guastavino's tile kiln and its brick stack. Other contributing elements are a section of stone wall, a vaulted hillside cellar, the exposed foundation ruins of the house, and earthworks. The estate was Guastavino's principal residence for the last 14 years of his life. The property is now Christmount, the conference and retreat center of the Christian Church.

The district encompasses 84 contributing buildings, 3 contributing sites, and 1 contributing structure in the town of Everetts. They include notable examples of Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Romanesque, and Bungalow / American Craftsman architecture in buildings dated from the 1870s through the 1950s. Most of the district's extant historic buildings date from the early 1900s and 1910s. Located in the district is the separately listed Everetts Christian Church. Other notable buildings include the Simon Peter and Minerva Jane Everett House (1870s), Peel House, Barnhill's Hardware and Grocery Store (1907), the J. S. Peel Commercial Building (1909), Taylor-Peel House, and the Everetts Community Building (1952).
Morrisville Christian Church, also known as Morrisville Church of Christ, is a historic church located at Morrisville, Wake County, North Carolina. It was built in 1872–1873, and is a one-story, three-bay by four bay, vernacular front-gable church. It has a projecting front gable and prominent three-stage corner bell tower, which contains the main entrance, protected by a front-gabled portico. The church retains its original wood flooring, wall and ceiling finishes, and floor plan. The United Church of Christ sold the building to the Town of Morrisville in 1976 and it houses a community center.
