Exallandra is a genus of hoverflies in the subfamily Syrphinae. [2] [1]
The Ulidiidae or picture-winged flies are a large and diverse cosmopolitan family of flies (Diptera), and as in related families, most species are herbivorous or detritivorous. They are often known as picture-winged flies, along with members of other families in the superfamily Tephritoidea that have patterns of bands or spots on the wings. Some species share with the Tephritidae an unusual elongated posteroapical projection of the anal cell in the wing, but can be differentiated by the smoothly curving subcostal vein. Two species, Tetanops myopaeformis and Euxesta stigmatias, are agricultural pests.
Rhingia is a genus of hoverflies. They all have a very distinctive long snout. The larva are associated with animal dung. Adults feed on nectar and pollen.
Spilomyia is a genus of hoverflies. Many species in the genus show Batesian mimicry of wasp models, including black and yellow patterns and modified antenna shape.
Paul Gustav Eduard Speiser (1877–1945) was a German entomologist who specialised in Diptera.
Catharosia is a genus of flies in the family Tachinidae. There are about 12 described species in Catharosia, found worldwide.
Eumerus is a genus of hoverflies, within the tribe Eumerini.
Rhochmopterum is a genus of tephritid or fruit flies in the family Tephritidae.
Platycheirus is a large genus of hoverflies. They are also called sedgesitters.
Didea fasciata is a Holarctic species of hoverfly.
Melanostoma is a large genus of hoverflies. Little is known of their biology, but they are suspected to be general predators of small insects in leaf litter.
Anasimyia is a genus of wetland hoverflies with aquatic larvae. The genus is sometimes regarded as a subgenus of the similar Lejops.
The Milesiini is a large and diverse tribe of hoverflies. They mimic wasps or hornets.
Milesia is a genus of very large hoverflies, which mimic social wasps. For example, the European species Milesia crabroniformis is a convincing mimic of the hornet species Vespa crabro. Milesia are predominantly Palaeotropical in distribution almost entirely Oriental.
Suillia is a genus of flies in the family Heleomyzidae. There are at least 130 described species in Suillia.
Doros profuges is a Palearctic species of hoverfly.
The Metopininae are a subfamily of flies in the family Phoridae.
Eumerus funeralis or lesser bulb fly is a species of Hoverfly, from the family Syrphidae, in the order Diptera. E. funeralis appears in Peck (1988) as a synonym of E. strigatus (Fallen), but was reinstated as the correct name for tuberculatus Rondani, sensu auctorum by Speight et al. (1998).
Panopinae is a subfamily of small-headed flies (Acroceridae). Their larvae are endoparasites of spiders in the infraorder Mygalomorphae.
Schistopterini is a tribe of tephritid or fruit flies in the family Tephritidae.
Chaetonerius is a genus of flies in the family Neriidae.
