History

The area in what is known as Fodice today was founded sometime after the American Civil War. It may have been named for the fact that the residents liked to play a game called "four dice", or as an alternate spelling of Fordyce, Arkansas, where the community's first settlers moved from. A Methodist church was erected in 1875. A post office was established at Fodice in 1902 and remained in operation until 1966. There were two general stores, a cotton gin, a gristmill, and a Masonic lodge in the community in 1914. It had a church and a cemetery for the next two decades and 25 residents in 1936. It grew to 50 in the mid-1970s. It still had a church, a cemetery, and several scattered houses in the early 1990s with mostly African American residents. The population was 49 in 1990 and 2000. [2]
