Frank McNulty Beede III (born March 1, 1973) is a former professional American football player who played offensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL) for five seasons for the Seattle Seahawks [1] and seven years in the Arena Football League (AFL) for the San Jose Sabercats.

Early life

Beede was born in Antioch, California and graduated from Antioch High School in 1991 where he lettered in three sports: football, wrestling and track. He was the BVAL heavyweight wrestling champion in his senior year.

College years

Pursuing football in college, Beede played on the offensive line as a guard for three seasons at the University of California, Berkeley. He played in the 1992 Citrus Bowl and 1993 Alamo Bowl and earned honorable mention for the 1994 All-Pacific-10 Conference. Beede was thrown off the team before his senior year for using steroids and transferred to Oklahoma Panhandle State University. There he was named to the NAIA All-America second-team and All-Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference first-team.

Pro-Football years

Beede joined the Seattle Seahawks in 1996 becoming the first free agent rookie starter in franchise history. He played five years with the Seahawks.

After his years with the Seahawks, Beede joined the Arena Football League as center for the San Jose Sabercats. During his seven years with the Sabercats, he was part of a team that won three ArenaBowl titles in 2002, 2004, and 2007. [2]

Personal Life

Beede married his wife, Kim, in 2000, and together they have two children.

Retiring from football in 2007, Beede returned to eastern Contra Costa County as a history teacher and football coach. In 2010, Frank was honored by the NFL as its Teacher of the Year recipient. [3] He stated that he never considered himself a gifted athlete, but that his work ethic and attitude sometimes made him victorious as an NFL player. He taught at Freedom High School (Oakley, California) since 2008, telling his students that it is not about the skill, but about the will.

In June 2021 it was announced that Beede would become principal at Knightsen Elementary School.

The 1976 NFL season was the 57th regular season of the National Football League. The league expanded to 28 teams with the addition of Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This fulfilled one of the conditions agreed to in 1966 for the 1970 AFL–NFL merger, which called for the league to expand to 28 teams by 1970 or soon thereafter.

Mark Richard Grieb is a former Arena football quarterback who spent the majority of his career with the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League (AFL). Grieb currently serves as the head coach of the Sacred Heart Prep Gators football team in Atherton, California. He was a 13-year veteran of the AFL, having played quarterback for the Anaheim Piranhas (1997) and San Jose SaberCats. Grieb also played in NFL Europe for the Scottish Claymores (1998) and in the XFL with the Las Vegas Outlaws (2001). Grieb is the second quarterback in AFL history to throw for over 47,000 yards, over 900 touchdowns, over 3,800 completions, and over 10,000 pass attempts. He officially retired on November 8, 2012. He played college football at University of California, Davis. Grieb passed for 48,080 yards between the Arena League, XFL and NFL Europe.

Christopher Jackson is an American football coach and former wide receiver who is the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator for The University of Texas. During the 2022 season, he was the wide receivers coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League (NFL). He previously served as an assistant coach for the Chicago Bears.

Troy Stanley Reddick is a former American football offensive lineman and personal trainer with John Charles' Air One Football Academy. He chose to sign with the Chicago Bears over the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played college football at Auburn University where he was an integral part of the undefeated 2004 season that culminated in a Sugar Bowl victory.

Sherman Smith is a former professional American football running back who played eight seasons for the Seattle Seahawks and San Diego Chargers between 1976 and 1983. He was also the running backs coach for the Seahawks, as well as the former offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins. Dan Loney is a former American football offensive lineman who last played for the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League. Loney attended Atascadero High School in Atascadero, California, where he played competitive football; he continued to play football at Cal Poly. Upon graduating, he was not selected in the 2000 NFL Draft; as such, he signed with the San Jose SaberCats in early 2001.

Dave Canales is an American football coach who is the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). Before this, he was an assistant coach for the Seattle Seahawks from 2010 to 2022.
