Inauguration

Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 2 March 2024. Governor Haji Ghulam Ali administered oath to him. [1] The inauguration ceremony was held in Peshawar, which was attended by party leaders and workers in large numbers. [2]

Major decisions

As Chief Minister, Gandapur has expressed his determination to restart the process of development in the province. He has prioritized the restoration of Sehat Insaf Card for the welfare of the people. He has also emphasized the importance of law and order and said that the establishment of lasting peace is the first priority. Gandapur has expressed its determination to make the province attractive to foreign investors. He has also promised to talk to the federal government to protect the rights of the province. [3]

The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is the provincial government of the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Its powers and structure are set out in the provisions of the 1973 Constitution, in which 32 districts come under its authority and jurisdiction. The government includes the cabinet, selected from members the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, and the non-political civil staff within each department. Provincial elections were held in the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 8 February 2024 to elect members of the 12th Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On 5 August 2023, the results of the 2023 digital census were approved by the Council of Common Interests headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Therefore, elections have been delayed for several months, as new delimitations will be published on 14 December 2023, as announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). On 2 November 2023, the ECP announced, in agreement with the President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, that the elections would be held on 8 February 2024. This election was held concurrently with nationwide general elections and other provincial elections.

Since 29 February 2024, flooding affected various regions across the country, including Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. At least 40 people were killed and 62 injured in the floods. Floods caused by heavy rains caused widespread destruction, disrupting normal life and damaging infrastructure. The government declared a state of emergency in several areas, and relief operations were launched by various agencies, including the Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Army, and the Frontier Corps.

Muzzammil Aslam is a Pakistani government official who is serving as advisor to Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur for Finance.
